2018 update: HuniePop was still a better game

I'm revisiting a list from two years ago, and adding four additional points, making the list a nice even 10.


I hate to say it, but I've realized a few things about this game. I really enjoyed HuniePop more and for several reasons.

1. Let's clear the elephant in the room right now. This game has no nudity, HuniePop didn't have a lot of nudity but it kept you playing until you got all 12 girls just to see what would happen next and you got a great reward for it. This game gives you.... trophies shaped like male organs, and coins that you can use to unlock outfits. That's it. Joy.

2. Drawing style. I'll be the first to say it right now. I loved HuniePop's unique anime/cartoon mixup of designs for the character. This style is so generic that it's bland. The bases are easily available just about anywhere for this style. Not only that but the characters may have the same voice actress but do not follow the same rules. The body forms and age are changed so much that some of the characters aren't even close to the same, even though they have the same color hair and eyes.

3. Personality. Maybe it's the nature of the beast but we introduced a lot of characters and they all seem to have almost no personality at all. Instead we have just a handful of comments, and that's about it. There was a lot to learn about the girls in Huniepop and that made the characters likeable, including full voice acting, which led to...

4. Attachment. I know this game isn't in canon with the original series but there are characters both old and new that I kinda got attached to, at least as far as really enjoying the character (Tiffany, Nikki, Lillian, Candace, etc.) and here it just seems like "whelp, you got AIDS. You're useless". It was as bad as when George R. R. Martin kills off a character you want to see succeed. I really enjoy the Hunie girls and some of the new ones make me wish to have them in a HuniePop sequel or a game like strip poker. These characters are so much throwaways that they don't even have a last name in this game.

5. Overall tone of the game. In HuniePop, Kyu was your sardonic equal as far as pervdom was concerned. She was ribbing you but she did it because she cared and that's why the game was light-hearted, footloose and fancy free. In this game, it seems more like she cares about money and that's it. To me, Kyu saying "bring me money or ♥♥♥♥ you" doesn't sound like Kyu.

6. This game seems like a feast or famine. The people who get the game score so high it's not even funny while the people who don't score 2,000 or less for the entire time, in fact this features a major flaw in the game play. This game can literally be beaten with only 7 or 8 photo shoots if you do enough cam shows. The number of "fans" gained by photo shoots becomes nearly useless as level 5 style only gives you ~50 fans per shoot.

7. Bronze and Silver have the same ending message. I didn't end up with a gold trophy in this game so I didn't know what that ending message was but it's kinda sad that they didn't care enough to give you at least a decent message for doing better than average.

EDIT: Gold and Platinum also have the same message. This is lazy. I saw a video on a gold ending, and I see they used the same ending message for gold and platinum. Very nice.

8. Not sexy enough. Aside from the lack of nudity in point 1, I would also like to point out that if you unlock all the outfits, your reward photo is.... the exact same photo you saw in the loading screens. That's right. They actually didn't care enough to give you a good reward, all you get is a photo you've seen 20 or more times.

9. Not enough emphasis on the girls. Go ahead, look at the portraits, you'll see only about 2/3 of the girl (they have no legs and it cuts off just above the vag level), meaning that you have to wait to see good full-body portraits for HP2. This whole argument of trans characters would be pointless because you wouldn't see anything on that level, which even though traps are a terrible idea, you wouldn't see it in HCS. You also don't see the good parts of the girl.

10. last but not least, two of the most bland characters in the game are in this game. Marlena, anyone? Marlena literally is evolved around one theme: typical Brazilian bombshell. Putting a little depth helps a lot. Another character I think got tested and was almost universally hated was Renee. Renee is a stereotypical loud-mouth black woman. These two characters are generally considered the least liked and there was a reason for that. I said in HuniePop that I wanted to clobber Audrey across the head, but she has some degree of character depth, Renee and Marlena are the kind of thing you would come up with after hearing "The Girl from Ipanema" while watching too many 1970s blaxploitation films. Although two of the most interesting characters, Lillian and Candace are both in the game, they fall slightly flat only because they need a little bit more character depth, which I'm glad they will be in HP2. If any of these characters do end up returning in HP2, I can only hope they will be given actual personalities, character flaws and be more likeable.

I imagine there was a lot that could have been done with Brooke, but to me, Brooke is an uglier version of Jessie. She has an interesting story but that's about it to me. That's why I didn't name her even though I can't stand her.

I will always support the Hunie series of games, but this one I'm just lukewarm on. As much talk about sex as is in this game, it seems like something should deliver. Thankfully there will be a second HuniePop game and that will give us more of the goodness of the first game.

As for why the girl's get cut off at vag level, I never considered it before but it could be that the rest of them is obscured by your desk, like you're calling them into your office and can't see their legs because you're looking slightly up at them.

I played this game before HuniePop. Like a good business sim. I made a post a little bit ago about point 5. How the game can be improved with three words: Turn off Kyu. Having to click through her 7 or 8 "Let me insult you, that'll make you want to play the game" bits every time is thoroughly annoying, as is her four of five "Here's how not having money works" ones.

I honestly didn't know she was supposed to be a remotely-likeable character until I played HuniePop.

Wouldn't mind some improvements. Why can't two girls do a show together? Why can't I just hire a "Go get smokes and booze" person? Or better yet, make them buy their own? Drugs should be a bigger part of things, too.

You may be on to something, Captain, have personality traits and how well the girls get along. Audrey and Tiffany are polar opposites and having them do shows together would create conflict, there's a lot more that could be done with this game. Also, I don't need Kyu insulting you at every turn. It's not playful banter, she's openly saying "Yeah, I don't like you. Bring me money".

This is even true with the characters. As much as I can't stand Renee and Marlena, some great characters are also in this game and thankfully most of my personal favorites will graduate to HP2 (Lillian, Candace, and I'm convinced that Lailani will be given the full makeover at some point in time, I'm also okay with Nadia).

I'm not a huge fan of Sarah but I can see why she graduated and honestly, I think Nora's move up is because they're not only filling a diversity quota but also trying to make her act more like an actual Latina gangsta, whereas Kyanna was really just a coconut. If Renee or Marlena make the move up to HP2, they would have to be almost completely overhauled to be likeable. I can't stand either one of them. That said, if Zoey made the transition, she would be interesting when you get to the sex scene.

Keep in mind that right now, the HCS girls haven't fully been fleshed out so most of them will be moved up as they move to HP2 but some of them just didn't appeal to me at all. Brooke is an uglier version of Jessie.

There was actually potential to make this a great game, but it just didn't really deliver on a lot of things that I had hoped for.

Also, do you know what would happen at a real porn studio if the 5x5 Earner girl had to stop making the studio money to get the 1x1 Rookie's smokes? The 1x1 Rookie would find her ass out on the street the next day.

Lillian is actually extremely useful with a subscriber pillow and a nicotine patch, I have found. Pair her with Tiffany and you'll be watching your money escalate.She's level 4 style so you don't need to do much with her except beef up her talent once you fund teen or tattoo viewers. I kinda like that, because it means I don't have to spend time or money on the "Improve click to 2 at the boutique" when I work with her.

Audrey I just can't deal with on a regular basis. I have tried and tried and tried but I hate her with a passion and I'm sure she feels the same way about the player. The problem with Audrey is they cranked up her drinking and smoking to the max and with her being only a 2/2, she needs a lot of work. Only use her for camming if your teen or flat chest has a cult following. Oddly enough she's better than Marlena. Marlena has a 5/5 which means she wants $256 an hour. This is a major problem, because each cam show would cost you about $3 grand.

By the way, I've only played this game and HuniePop, but from the way people are talking, it sounds like there's this long-standing tradition and series of Hunie games I'm unaware of. Please tell me more.

I know nothing about additional games. HuniePop was Kickstarted in 2014 with a budget of about $60 grand, and developed a major cult following.

Yeah, Nikki is who I always start with, so she's usually my first 5/5 girl. I cae see that exchange going on if I ran the studio.

Me: We need to get out of the red. Where's Nikki?
Audrey: She's at the store, getting MY smokes!

I think I found your problem. Read point 6 again. You can actually win the game with only a few photo shoots at the beginning of the game, until your errand girl gets you subscriber pillows. Once you learn the pairings of what you can use 2 or 3 girls with and invest that in promos, you will start earning tons of cash back and forth which means the fans will come to you in droves. I managed 137k fans by just doing the ♥♥♥♥ out of the cam shows with very few photo shoots or escorts. The reason Lillian is useful early on is that 2/4 combo is interesting.

You probably could save a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of money and time by making Nikki a 5/2 instead of 5/5, and using the extra time and clicks putting that in cam shows and promos. The style is useful but you're much better off using subscriber pillows and beefing up her fans by buying promos. That's why skipping the tutorials helps as well.
