Input lag
I'm experiencing horrendous keyboard input lag. Please add an option to disable vsync.

I tried toggling vsync off globally in Nvidia Control Panel to no avail, and the per-program settings page is unable to find the application.

Hi Aurinko, sorry that you're getting some input lag in Space Moth DX. You should be able to disable vsync in the game by manually adding it to the Nvidia Control Panel programs list, then turning the vsync option off for just Space Moth DX (not globally): this method works on all the Nvidia graphics cards the game was tested with. If you don't have the latest drivers for your graphics card please try updating them as well. Hope that helps!

I tried adding the .exe to the programs list but neither disabling vsync globally nor on per-program basis fixed the issue. I tried restarting Steam and even rebooting the computer but the problem persists.

I don't know what engine or APIs you use but I consider the in-game option to disable vsync essential in this genre where responsiveness is pivotal.

I don't want to get a refund because you included Inachis io and an Actias genus (maenas?) on the first stage, and I love how you simulated the iridescence of the boss Morpho [look-alike] by changing colors! I wonder what the final boss is; Attacus atlas..? Acherontia atropos for TLB would be dope.

I hope it's technically viable to eliminate the input lag, even though it is somewhat alleviated by the relatively slow pace of the game.

Would you mind sharing your system specs Aurinko? The way vsync is implemented in Space Moth DX shouldn't cause such extreme input lag, and this is the first time anyone has reported having that problem. It's unusual that the game isn't responding to vsync being forced off as well, so without more information I'm not sure what the cause might be.

I'm glad you're enjoying spotting all the different types of insects in Space Moth DX though, and thank you for supporting the game! The final boss is more celestial than the other enemies... look forward to meeting it! :typeIII:

IIRC the laptop that I experienced input lag on had Nvidia NVS 5200M. Now I didn't have as bad lag on my desktop computer with GTX 1050Ti. I don't know if the game has been patched in between. I had turned vsync off globally from Nvidia Control Panel on both systems.

Sounds like a problem on your end. I have a Sapphire R9 380X (4GB) and zero problems.
If the problem doesn't manifest on systems from sample set A, it doesn't logically follow that the problem is caused by systems from set B where the problem manifests. It could be, but it does not logically follow. But the way you phrased it; "sounds like", is valid enough, because many people might make that inference. The danger is that it's a red herring and attention would be better directed elsewhere.

Also, not to discredit your anecdotal evidence in particular, but generally I really wish we had a solid methodology and metrics to objectively measure input lag and share and compare results.

The reality is that you could sit two people at the same computer and still have one reporting that the lag is gamebreaking and the other saying there is none. In a typical case we're dealing with short enough delays that most people probably need to consciously look for it in order to notice it. If they don't, they may still experience an indefinite feeling of something about the game oddly being "off", or find it "difficult" without ever analyzing where that feeling originated.

I have seen and demonstrated this many times by having my friends try a game that happened to be new to them, and after they had their go I asked how they found the controls to be, and so far the number of times when input lag that was glaringly obvious to me went completely unnoticed by them vastly outnumbers the times they were aware of it (even after playing a game for over 30 minutes). In many cases out of those, they had difficulty telling if the lag really was there even after I had told them. But if the issue had a fix and I applied it, mostly people reported back that the change was noticeable. Sometimes they said simply that it "felt better". A few times they were not sure whether there was any change after the fix had been applied, although it was obvious to me.

That's why a lot of these discussions are just a bunch of handwaving and shrugging.
