Steam controller & gamepad do not work
Game works great - running Arch Linux 64bit. However, neither the steam controller or my xbox controller work - it's like they aren't even connected. If I map keyboard keys to them the game is almost playable; please make sure gamepads work in Linux!
Thanks.

Same on Ubuntu 16.04 - controll not recognized.

Unfortunately yes there is something wrong with our controller support on Linux at the moment, but we are looking into it. Meanwhile please try to bind keyboard keys to your controller as yochaigal suggested. You could also try to use the in-game menu if that would make the difference.

Thank you for your understanding.

Let me know if you have any questions or just how it goes. Cheers!

Have tested that and it works. Thanks for the quick reply and a very nice game!

I have ubuntu 14.04 confirm that the Xbox 360 pad is not recognized.
however it plays well with keyboard and mouse.

Many thanks for all your effort. I'd like to know if there's an ETA for a patch?

Universal ETA for anything is: WIR - When It's Ready.
Frozenbyte in previous games was releasing patches pretty often. I assume some patch may appear in June.

Hope so, that's certainly a cool living room / couch game :D.

Is there a update on this matter, the steamcontroller bindings seem still broken on Linux.
Had to map everyting with keyboard bindings, not ideal for a game that has controller support listed :( .

Unfortunately we have no updates planned at the moment, so most likely binding the keys is the only way to go. Sorry for the inconvenience! :(

I hope you can still enjoy the game, so let me know if you need help with the bindings.

Cheers!

Wish I'd seen this thread before purchasing--- there's still no controller support, and I have zero desire to fumble with WASD+mouselook on a laptop trackpad. Steam's custom controller configuration (only available for non-Steam controllers since last month) makes it playable, but it's still extremely irritating that you can't use the controller to navigate the menus.

I wouldn't recommend this to any other Linux users until the developer figures out XInput. Pretty amateur hour at the moment.

It's not really about figuring out, but about spending resources for a platform that has very small amount of users. Also, I'd like to point out that Xinput code written for Windows around the time of original Xbox is still valid, while on Linux input code that worked[1] for Trine 2 had to be tweaked for Trine EE, Trine 3 and Shadwen, which made just using old config impossible.

[1] For certain values of "worked". It wasn't pretty and required particular drivers, but at least most people got it working.

For anyone wondering: Three years later and this still isn’t fixed.

Very unlikely that it would magically fix itself.

Seems unlikely that you'll fix it, either. Whether attitude or aptitude, we cannot tell.

Just tested this on Steam Deck to see whether anything has changed: as you might expect it's playable using mouse+keyboard emulation, but there's still no native controller support.

Mostly just simple business logic. We can't really keep development team on a game that was released over six years ago.

Have you tried the game's in Windows version with Proton emulation? It likely works better than native Linux version.
