osu! Beatmaps that you should try in Holodance - add yours!
I actually haven't even tried all of these, yet, but this is a list I have just recently compiled for testing. If you have any favorite osu! beatmaps in Holodance, please post them into this thread. Over time, I'll also have some nice in-game features which will make this much more convenient but for now this is what we have ;-)

EDIT: We now also have a list of the 30 most popular beatmaps (by number of entries in the leaderboards): Most popular songs in Holodance with osu! beatmaps

EDIT: Something peculiar: I tried searching several songs / artists directly at the osu! beatmaps area and didn't find them. But searching the same on Google with song / artist name and osu as keywords did the trick.

EDIT: I've just found out that the osu-Website has search by categories. It's a little hard to find, and the genres are apparently not maintained too well because there are a lot more songs available for each genre than you would through these - but when you have logged in on the osu! Website, here's a few direct links into the genres available there for search:

This also lets you search by languages. /EDIT

Popular Beatmaps in Holodance
Basically, I manually looked through all the highscores and those are the ones that had more than 10 entries:

Trance

Dubstep

Metal

Hip Hop

Chiptunes

Top-Difficulty
From: Seven of the Most Challenging Osu! Beatmaps[www.ricedigital.co.uk]; this also has videos of those beatmaps being played in osu!

First Holodance with osu! Gameplay Video

0.5.8 still had sliders broken - this is now fixed in 0.6.0 (this version will go online today ;-) ):

So, this is a really really intense one if you play the one with difficulty 9.0 (Aether):

xi - Akasha (mapped by Atsuro)[osu.ppy.sh]

I'm using this for testing the new sliders and, um, reliability of collision detection ;-)
Vanadia Jan 8, 2017 @ 6:30am
Probably my favorite beatmap so far. Also by xi. It's quite intense, but the mapping works really well for holodance.

xi - Breakthrough Atmosphere [osu.ppy.sh]
jashan  [developer] Jan 9, 2017 @ 8:11am
xi is super-awesome. And I have to admit, I'm starting to develop into a Camellia fan. While testing Holodance in Unity 5.5, I have just discovered another little gem:

Camellia - LET'S JUMP / Year 2316 / mapped by RikiH_[osu.ppy.sh]

That one has some Sliders that are very close to what we're going to do with the native 3D-sliders (maybe called "Tracers", not sure yet) in levels 4-6 of story-mode.

To be honest, I didn't even know about Camellia before I started playing osu! beatmaps in Holodance. But I've just bought some of their albums on iTunes (surprisingly, I didn't find them on Beatport - WTF? ;-) )

Damn that was a tough one. I was close to giving up near the end of that, but I just had to beat your score ;)

Here's another one I really like:
Panda Eyes & Teminite - Highscore [osu.ppy.sh]

Thanks for these! I was actually looking for some more beatmaps, I was worried about getting one and then having it crash my game. If anyone else has any more that work, just post it here! Can't have too many I think :)

And thanks for the amazing game Jashan, I've been playing daily since I got it and it's actually encouraging me to work out. I'll play for 1 to 2 hours without even realizing! So much fun!!

Here's some other good beatmaps I found.

Porter Robinson - Divinity (feat. Amy Millan) [osu.ppy.sh]
In this one I really got the feeling of dancing rather than just swinging my arms wildly around.

Stonebank - Stronger (feat. EMEL) [osu.ppy.sh]

C-Show - Rocking to the Beat [osu.ppy.sh]
I prefer difficulty 7 for this.

Pendulum - The Island (MaxNRG Remix) [osu.ppy.sh]
Difficulty 5 is mapped for Taiko (it's impossible in holodance). Choose difficulty 8 :)

I've just found another really fun one:

dj TAKA - quaver[osu.ppy.sh]

At max difficulty this is a super-intense workout. Once we take distance into account for scores in "precision mode" this one should give you a really high score, too, because orbs are coming in lots of very different locations.
jashan  [developer] Jan 31, 2017 @ 9:45am
While doing some playtesting, I've discovered two more:

Dollscythe - Flashes (Extended)[osu.ppy.sh]

Muzzy - Draining Atlantic[osu.ppy.sh]

So far, I've only played those with my narayana games account, but will play them on my own name more, because I think those two are very awesome.

EDIT: A little note on Draining Atlantic: That one starts really really slow and builds up over time in a pretty cool way. That's what I really like about it ;-)

I liked this one: Toto - Holy War[osu.ppy.sh]
jashan  [developer] Feb 24, 2017 @ 1:44am
With this one, I actually first had to fix a few issues with timing of our Sliders (in other words, this particular one actually made me aware of a bug that I first needed to fix) but I think this is a really awesome map mainly because it starts really slow and easy and then gets quite a bit more intense:

sakuraburst - cherry blossoms explode across the dying horizon (mapped by Xilver)[osu.ppy.sh]
louis.bouchard Feb 27, 2017 @ 1:56am
Does anyone play Taiko beatmaps? So far, I ignored them. But someone on Reddit didn't like Sliders and so I tried a few Taiko maps to be able to give a recommendation for something without Sliders and really liked them. I copy and paste my posting from the Reddit comments:

MitiS & MaHi - Blu (Speed Up Ver.)[osu.ppy.sh] ... I played "Ono's Muzukashii". It starts very easy and kind of slow but don't let that fool you. There are also very intense sections that I haven't been able to crack so far. But I think I played pretty well, so let me know if you can beat my score ;-)

Another pretty awesome one: TwoThirds - Breathe[osu.ppy.sh], MuzuZoda. This one also has really slow and easy parts, and some parts that are insane. It is a difficulty 5 and unfortunately it seems there are not that many Taiko maps with low difficulty available. But to me, it feels incredibly rewarding to see a big mess of orbs coming my way and have the combo-counter survive it when I didn't miss one. Also, the orbs always come at the same locations, so you can train your muscle memory to get it right when you take your time with one specific map.

Those were both electronic style songs, I found them via the tags using Dnb which probably means Drum'n'Bass. The tagging isn't that great but it's a good enough starting point. And for Taiko maps, the Genre sorting also works okay.

If you're more into metal, you might like [Nightwish - Dead to the World](https://osu.ppy.sh/b/442230&m=1). That is a difficulty 6, there is also a 5 that I haven't tried. I'll do one more song - my arms hurt. But with practice, that one should be so rewarding! To me, that's really the kick in rhythm games: You play something and at first you think this is impossible. But then, after enough practice, you get a full combo, not a single orb missed, and feel like Superman.

This was a strange one: MC Lynn - EkiBEN2000[osu.ppy.sh], I did Taiko Normal which is difficulty 2. I would not say it was easy, and it had a few Sliders which surprised me but it was only maybe 5 over the whole song.

One more! This was in Genre Indie: Two Door Cinema Club - Come Back Home[osu.ppy.sh], Taiko Oni.

Today, I talked to a friend about Holodance and asked what music she liked ... and she reminded me of Depeche Mode: Depeche Mode Maps[osu.ppy.sh].

And Erasure[osu.ppy.sh].

Surprsingly, there's no Kraftwerk or Soft Cell. Or am I just too old? ;-)

Ah ... interesting ... seems like searching for osu! beatmaps via Google works better than directly on the osu! site: Soft Cell - Tainted Love[osu.ppy.sh]

There is also some Kraftwerk available: Kraftwerk - Tour de France '03 (Etape 2)[osu.ppy.sh]

And more: Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy[osu.ppy.sh]

... eurythmics - sweet dreams (are made of this)[osu.ppy.sh]

I thought I'd add some of my favorites, as some of the songs I like seem to have myself, or maybe one other person in the leaderboard (Celty, I'm looking at you ;)) I know there's quite a few here, but there are so many to like :)

I like more of the pop (mostly non j-pop, but I do have a few in there) and electronic music... so here goes.

The Gavin G section:
These tend to be mid-high intensity, short, and electronic, musical.

Reach out
Short but fun. It was the song I heard when looking at the McOsu gameplay video that made me want to get Holodance in the first place.

Refresh

Another Gavin G, electronic music, short and sweet.

Desire

[end Gavin G section]

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/228539
Mosou Express
One of the few J-pop songs I like. Well made beat map, and catchy tune.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/128931
Tower of Heaven
Electronic instrumental with fast\slow sections.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/349949
Don't let you down
The other J-pop song. Well made beatmap, and catchy tune with pop rock, and a touch of dub step thrown in.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/354537
Vagrant
Slower electronic tune with some fast parts. Like the lyrics and music style.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/496174
Paradise(What about us)
Longer rock song with well made beat map.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/375205
You Belong to Me
Fairly easy beatmap, with a dark theme. Not too challenging, but I like the song, and it's just plain weird.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/355300
I Want You To Know
Yes, this is a Selena Gomez song, but it's a good beatmap to get warmed up with, and I like the song anyway, so get over it ;)

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/11595
Morning After Dark
One of the few rap songs I could find, that I liked, featuring Timbaland, among others. Not too difficult, but a fun warm up song, and good for getting your mojo working.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/275655
One For All, All For One
Chip tunes and dub step. Just plain fun.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/296993
Neverending Nights
The only Mr. Kitty song I like so far. Very chill song for when you're feeling moody.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/106552
20 Percent Cooler
Song with Rap and Dubstep elements. Just fun to play, though not particularly difficult.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/33119
An electronic music take of the Pirates of the Carribean Theme. Straight up wacky and pure fun.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/255311
Touch
Uplifiting electronic music.

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/472143
Overtime
Catchy electronic song with a great beatmap. Requires some fancy armwork to catch those notes!
