Glad it works. Seems like the whole screen % change got to be done for any little thing that triggers the black screen but at least its playable now. Just not the ideal solution. I have to do it every time I boot up the computer or switching modes in Steam but hey.. as long as we can play it we have no other choice.
Online: Shootout and Practice seem like only two choices for online. Not sure why Grand Prix doesn't show online for me. But I just quickly ran through maybe I need to look deeper.
I also noted that changing "Display Resolution" via Windows 10 will also help with the black screen for this game. And also, the Xbox 360 WIRED controller completely messes this game AFTERWARD. It can play but once I exit Big Picture mode.. the computer gets messed up and there is a semi-permanent black screen where I can't power off my laptop or power it back on correctly.. so I discourage trying to use XBOX 360 WIRED without forewarning.
If your game doesn't run anymore after the Xbox 360 controller, just uninstall the graphics driver from device manager, reboot, and reinstall. The game should revert as it was. I had a brief problem where the game wouldn't play anymore bc somehow the Xbox 360 driver messed it up in Big Picture mode.. but only with Wacky Wheels.
First off make sure this is set in compatibility mode for Windows 8. Now, following gemtsu's instructions, when you go into the Display settings, instead of changing the size percentages, scroll a little lower to "Display Resolution". You are going to change that, but first make sure you are ready to launch the game. When you are ready, change your resolution. A popup should appear asking if you want to keep the changes, or it will revert in 15 seconds. Without hitting accept or discard, launch the game. The black screen will pop up, and the sound should play, letting you know the game is running. Now, simply wait for the 15 seconds to run out, the resolution should revert, and the game should be displaying properly!
I would like to thank gemtsu for the inspiration to try this, since I remembered him saying something about scaling not matching or whatever. Since his changing the percentages trick did not work for me, I wondered if I do could do the same thing with the resolution, and when I saw that it said it would revert, I realized it would automatically fix the scaling when it went back. So thank you gemtsu for finding the work around!
Glad it works for you man. This is a Windows 10 issue imo. I was able to try a few of my onboard gfx / PCIE cards and debug for individual factors and it's pointing at Windows 10 and how it interacts with the PCIE graphics card; Somehow Windows 10 take predominant control and something about the control-refresh rate on our regular monitor that has nothing to do with the game thats creating this clash.. but doesn't matter what's important is that we can all finally enjoy this game!
I did discover the display resolution as an alternate but I did not think about ignoring that 13 seconds revert default... its actually very convenient! Thanks for that!
Duck Shoot: For some reason when I use up and down arrow key it won't go here. But if I use the mouse pointer, it points and activates the option fine.
