Update 1.0.2 Now Available
I have pushed the 1.0.2 update. It's a much smaller update than I'd hoped. But it seems like the number of folks experiencing issues has increased. This update has two key components to it.

First, it has some work around the memory leak. It still appears to leak memory, but *far* less than before. Hopefully this stops the crazy bugs like the game stuttering to a halt.

Second, there are some general bug fixes. The biggest one is that it can now display on a widescreen monitor -- albeit stretched out. I felt this was better than not displaying at all (or forcing windowed mode).

It should also stop the crashing on the latest version of macOS.

If Steam doesn't update your app, right click on the game's name in the Steam app and select properties. Then select the local files tab, and verify the cache integrity. That will force the game to re-download with this update. You should see content buildID of 2513984.

Please let me know if this resolves your issues, or causes any new issues.

I think this never will happen. Sad.

Never say never. The biggest issue for sure is Torque. But it's not as simple as some folks think to rewrite the entire game in Unity. Keep in mind that a calendar week for me is maybe 10 hours of development right now.

The good news is that I switched to Unity for all new projects last Fall. So it's mostly just a time constraint, not a lack of interest on my part.
maybe you should add an analogue stick sensitivity in the next patch. i played the orignal dos version and this one is a bit difficult to steer.

I was wondering as well.

I'm sorry I didn't see these comments earlier.

The short answer is that I plan on more updates. The longer answer is that I don' know when those will happen. The game needs to be ported to a modern engine first and that's the big blocker on progress. I've explored a few ideas but haven't made any concrete plans just yet.

Where is the Windows 10 fix?

For now, you will have to run the game in Win8 compatibility mode.

That's nice and all.. But it DOESN'T WORK. It might have worked (for some people, never me) a year ago but Windows has been upgraded twice since then.

With the current version of Windows, "windows 8 compatibility mode" prevents the silent crash to desktop yes but all you are presented with after that is a black screen with music.

I bought this game ages ago and I've never once been able to play it. It's a shame because it looked really nice in the screenshots and that's all I've ever seen of the game.

Ok, I'll take a look. My apologies about that. If we can't get it to work for you, we can do a refund.

Wheres the update for NOT-STEAM version? Can't find it anywhere.
I have a not.steam version, not working, black screen with music.
If you are not going to update that one maybe you could give buyers a steam key.

If you buy it anywhere else, you are welcome to a steam key. Just email me at support (at) cascadiagames (dot) com

Also, this thread is super helpful to figure out why the game does't run on modern machines. Long story short -- the game was built on an old game engine. It needs some help to work on the latest windows with the latest hardware.

Hi Cascadia,

I just bought the game on Steam and already have seen the 3 main problems with the game.

1. Black screen issue
Seems to fix it by setting my windows desktop resolution to something really low (ie. 1280x720). Then starting the game you see that it changes the resolution back to 1920x1080 till you exit the game. Not nice, but "workable". (maybe have the game swap to something low at start and swap back to the wanted resolution automatically?)

2. Gamepad issue
In console log I can get it to detect 2 gamepads (instead of default 1) by just duplicating the gamepad_1.cs profile to gamepad_2.cs. I can see it in the console.log. However in game I can see'
It are both xbox 360 gamepads in Steam (Thrustmaster GP XID to be exact).

3. Performance issue
When playing with 2 players it will be come very slow when more vehicles are on screen and gives hickups with big explosions.

My system (laptop):
Windows 10 64-bit
Core i7 8650U
Radeon RX 540
