moosey mound quest bug

I have experienced a quest bug that wont allow me to finish and turn in a quest. I picked up the moosey mound quest in the 2nd settlement from an NPC called Dieter. the next part of the quest was to find another NPC to get the location of the moose.

Instead, i decided to go to the moosey mound location myself and triggered the moose cinematic. I was then told to go back to dieter. But, it wont allow me to turn the quest in, I had to go to the other NPC for the directions of the moose to tick that part off. But now, the moose cannot be triggered at the moosey mound location and so, I cant finish the quest. Basically from step 1 of the quest... i went straight away to step 3 but wouldnt allow me to turn in the quest.. so i backtracked and did step 2 but now step 3 wont trigger again.
