I just wanted to make sure if the hearts above your other party members are there levels and if so do people in reserve also get experience? Should I be looking out to character swap often just for those hearts? Thanks.

The hearts are actually the characters affinity towards Ajna, so the higher it is the more damage they'll do in combat. I believe they all technically level up when Ajna does.

So their hp and general stats scale off of ajnas level i guess which would make sense. I guess that also explains the million minus hearts on Dhar at the start lol.

Yeah, as I understand it Ajna is your party level, and the hearts of everyone else is how much of a boost they personally get from her level. It is pretty much not explained at all in game though, and I'd have to look up an external explanation again for details.
