What the heck is going on with the balance in this?
So I'm into the second act (post Razzamataz or whatever his name was) and I've already been to the Iron Kingdoms and found out the princess is in another castle. Rolled the dice again and went to Tai Krung.

I'm now encountering Hungry Ghosts that 1-shot any character if not Clean Blocked and reduce most to about 10% HP even if I do CB, often in packs of 4. (We're talking single hits for 19k when most of my chars have 5-7k). Up until coming here I'd not died in combat once, now suddenly any progress at all is only possible through luck or by jumping over/ running away from mobs. Admittedly I've not done the defense upgrade since up until now I hadn't needed it and the only problem I'd had with combat was HP-sponge mobs, hence I was saving for the attack upgrade.

Am I just being punished for doing things in the 'wrong' order? And if so, why bother even giving me the choice?

I'll be honest: I really don't know. This game is likely just not play tested very well (btw you can revive party members/Anja at any time if you hit LB+RB so long as you have one character alive and one bar of the meter I think...).

The only combat advice I can give is: Use party members with AoE multi hitting attacks and just spam those. The higher the hit count is, the more damage you do, and hitting multiple enemies increases the hit combo so much that the single hit moves are FAR weaker in the long run.

Defense upgrades only improves perfect blocking. From lowering the damage, to taking 0s, to healing from perfect blocking...and the game will expect you to do perfect blocks a lot even more so in NG+ where you take insane amounts of damage otherwise.

It's useful to know that the defense upgrade will remove the CB chip damage, that might be enough to deal with the problem. I must admit I'm getting a bit of buyer's remorse with this one- speaking as someone who would list the Souls series, Salt and Sanctuary and Bloodstained as recent favourites, it just seems Indivisible doesn't nail the balance of challenge in either the platforming or the combat particularly well.

Also I knew about the LB+RB thing, but it requires full Iddhi so bizarrely gets harder to use once Ajna gets 'more powerful'.

Ah well, maybe I'll go back to it.

If you talk about overpowered monsters, the first thing comming to my mind are the enemies for the musical-instrument-quest from Port Maerifa. If you encounter them and cannot get any close to a victory - don't worry. Proceed with the story at the point, where the story tells you "no turning back from here" and you will get back later with more ringsel-power-ups :)
