the biggest issue with the difficulity though isnt even the combat, i've died a few times but not a lot. the biggest issue is the lack of any punishment. if you die you instantly just go back to your previous save point which is fairly normal for any game, but idk something about it in this game seems to be extremely forgiving. There is no Game Over screen, go back to hub world, you dont lose anything except maybe a small bit of time cuz fights rarely take very long.
Of course enemies get stronger, but before the combat gets a challenge you usually find enough ringsels (those red crystal thingies) to upgrade your combat strength, and suddenly everything is easy again...
It also does not help that the game involves a lot of backtracking, having you fight the same battles over and over again (often you can skip them, but not always).
The only battles that are a bit of a challenge are the boss-fights, because they usually need you to figure out a certain boss-unique mechanic in order to progress.
For me the main challenge of this game is actually the platforming part, and figuring out how to combine different moves to reach the goal.
The repetitive combat does have an upside though: You get plenty of opportunity to look at character animation, which is just gorgeous. Also, you can play around with different party compositions.
So, yeah, mixed feelings about the combat difficulty. But if you explicitly want very challenging combat, then maybe consider other games.
Or just download the demo version and see for yourself.
Super cool that's what I wanted to see, the game is way too easy right now for me to enjoy, but I'm patient. Hope they can provide a challenging mode that'll force us to use the full potential of the combats mechanics.
They should communicate on what they'll work on IMO, because if I could I would have refunded the game had I not see your screenshot.
Anyway good luck to the team !
I dont feel like I should even be playing the game right now.. sounds like they still have things to work out and I'd rather play the fine tuned version rather than one thats still being tweaked.
Basically how I feel, I've shelved it until it's actually complete.
For me the lack of a game over screen or any archaic time wasters is amazing. I hate the trend that "Oh hay, why don't you tediously re-trace your footsteps and do stuff you just did" that seems to be popular amongst some devs these days. It's garbage that doesn't respect the player's time.
Hey, if YOU feel like you're not being punished badly enough you can go load up your save games instead. Personally, that crap can go die in a fire. I appreciate that the devs respect the fact that just redoing things you JUST DID isn't fun, it's tedious.
I've heard a bunch of different conversations about the combat, and all I can say is I had fun with it. I won most fights on the first try, and enjoyed trying different combinations of different characters and attacks, seeing where their strengths and weaknesses lay. I enjoyed the fighting because I wanted to see if I do the whole fight clean.
This is a game that seems to be all about exploration and discovery. I just wish there was more, I've already 100%ed it and played through twice (trying to see if I could figure out exploits to get into places earlier or do things cleaner) and just want more.
and they make you repeat it every single time if you happen to die to one of those stupid non combat damages.
yep, they cared about our time ^^ b
*Surely* there is a way to bind that feature.
