Specifically: were you using "rest" on a big map? If you have enough food, your troops restore a percentage of their health with each rest. On easy mode, you would need to rest ~2-3 turns between battles if your troops are at 50% health. Rest also uncovers some special events that could make your life much easier.
Why are the battlefields so cluttered? Why ALL our troops have so few movements points compared to anything you're fighting again? Why everything is immune to magic when your only ranged character is a magic-user? Why every single ennemy got huge damages/ranged attacks/can heal when none of your troop got all these possibilities ever? Why are you always starting with your troops scattered and blocked with the clutter ( usually your viking completly unable to reach anything because of the clutter )? Why the ennemies reappear so fast? Why can't my troops get a rest while my peaseant dig for ressource?
Seriously, this game is not fun at all.
I'll try to give some tips in order to make experience a bit more pleasant in case you'll want to give it another try:
1) The troops are very different, the main point is to diversify as much as you can. While your swordsmen can't move a lot of spaces, your rogues are much better against this. Diversification solves the enemy immunity issues too: if you have melee troops, they will be able to deal with magic-resisting orcs in a much more efficient manner.
2) Enemies reappear based on your difficulty settings: it takes much more time for them to reappear if you play on easy difficulty, and this should give a lot more opportunities to rest (don't be afraid to simply rest on some turns, it restores your troop health).
3) you can add new abilities to your troops in the training center, this should help out a bit (especially healing ability for the mages)
The game is challenging and it does have issues (I agree with cluttering, for one: sometimes there's too much obstacles, but it ensures that your units won't be stuck and will at least have some movement).
As for not fun at all argument - that's absolutely up to you to decide and I respect your opinion. Thanks for giving it a try nonetheless.
