Let's discuss the ending of Deponia (I want to create a general topic for all languages)
Let's keep the main language in English even if you have to translate, I'm Brazilian and I'm doing the same, my goal is to create a general topic where people who play the game in the future and maybe even those who played in the past can debate about This game.

This topic is to say that if you didn't like the ending of "Goodbye Deponia" and much less this game (Deponia Doomsday), I'm with you, I already have my review of the game My final review , although it is in Portuguese, feel free to translate it into your language, I will tell you a little about my story with deponia and what I thought Of the subsequent games, I played the first game in mid-2016, I only played it because it had a translation into my language, the other games (chaos on deponia and goodbye deponia) didn't have subtitles for my region, so I was only able to play them now in 2024 because someone made a fan translation for Deponia: The Complete Journey, so I replayed the first game and all the subsequent ones and as I didn't like the ending, I decided to play Doomsday thinking they would fix it and make a decent and befitting ending for the game but that's not what I found, but rather a hate letter to the fans of the series who hated the ending, and with all the reason in the world.

The first game in the series is fantastic, it presented a very good world, with charismatic characters, there were several things that I loved about the game and for all these years I kept the first game in my heart, if you notice, although the trilogy has the same tone , you can say that all the first 3 games are deponia, a little different from Doomsday, which deviates a little from the other games in a large part of the game, the first game is very different from the others, it has a dark and even acid humor but it's not as appealing and strong as its successors, it's possible to sympathize with ruffs in the first game and he doesn't do anything really wrong, he's just a character making crazy plans that don't work out very well but in the first game he doesn't hurt anyone, unlike of the others that he kills dolphins, kills children, separates couples, makes a woman a slave, gives medicine to a baby and so on..., all of this that the author forced Rufus to do combined with the ending makes me think that the author for some reason he hates Rufus, from what I read from people's reviews at the same time as the comments on the Steam forum on the different games in the series, I could see that people, at least the majority, became friends with Rufus and wanted to see him together from Goal, but it seems that this was not the author's intention, so the more people loved rufus the more the author hated it, it was as if he wanted to force us to hate rufus, I can understand people who hate rufus, see the what the author made him do in the other games, but look at it from the perspective of the first one, was Rufus really that bad? Was he really that bad most of the time? I know that the story in essence is something that the author wants to do but I feel that a lot of things were the author shoving down our throats what he wanted and not something natural, it's as if he wanted to destroy Rufos out of a tantrum and Doomsday is Proof that he and his team can be spoiled kids, so everything bad in the successor games to Deponia is due to them trying to nerf and villainize Rufus, all the problems can be summed up in this, of course, as many people point out, there are problems in the puzzles and some bugs, but that doesn't seem to be the main problem, of course in terms of sales, it may have been an impediment for the game to sell more, but as a fan it's not something that stops me what really bothers me is the story.

The developers and the author didn't understand that "the customer is always right", they didn't think for a minute that the criticisms could be well-founded and that they made sense, everyone I read complaining had N reasons, they made several points and it took a long time Well, if they got off their godly pedestal, and tried to fix the problems, everything would have been much better, but instead of trying to tell a good story and make everyone who became a fan of this IP happy, they decided to create a game to mock, criticize, attack, villainize and curse the fans who rightly hated the ending, as many pointed out, no one could have predicted this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ending, because the game simply didn't have that atmosphere, the game always had an acidic humor, with things sometimes unreal things happening, Rufus always surviving unimaginable things, the first time Rufos didn't survive was in goodbye deponia at the beginning, and the game always preached hope, in the 3 games it always seemed like Rufus was going to get what he wanted, no one expected him was actually for Elysium, but at least he would stay with Goal in Deponia, you know what's funniest, I expected the Devs to attack the players now, from 2018/2020 onwards, because currently the devs prefer to create a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ story with diversity and pushing an ideological agenda on people, I wouldn't expect that in 2013 to 2016, in itself making the game for that purpose was very unprofessional, if they did something like that today the company would have been massacred by the players.

I don't feel excited, interested or hyped for the next game (Surviving Deponia) because hope simply died at the end, it would be so interesting and happy to meet Goal and Rufus in the game, but knowing what happened at the end of the third game leaves everything The saddest thing is, the developers killed the game for me, not only in the third but in the fourth game, in my opinion this game, which until now is a spin-off, is already born dead due to previous decisions, the least they should do before launching the game would be to make a sequel giving a decent ending to the series, the developers have so many possibilities to correct their flaw:

1 - The obvious thing that everyone expected, Rufus surviving the fall and meeting Goal when Elysium landed in deponia. Unlike what the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Devs said (sorry the anger got louder), we didn't want a game or that Deponia lasted forever, if the final CG of goodbye deponia lasted a little longer showing this ending everyone would be happy but they had to make a game of giving the middle finger to the fans.

2 - A complete remake of the first 3 games in the series, correcting everything that's bad, but the remake in just one game, everyone knows that if it weren't for the exaggerated complexity of the puzzles and if they had more sense, the games wouldn't they would last that long, so it's only fair that an improved story from the 3 games fit into one game.

3 - The ideal would be to take the time travel theme and make a good ending, but as they burned it in Doomsday, they could do the sequel in another way, be it saying that the real Rufus didn't die with the fall at the beginning of goodbye deponia So it was your clones who saved the day but the real Rufus is saved or thinking about something else, remembering that the ones who came up with a good idea like time travel were you devs, so don't blame me for thinking of anything better.

Now an honest question, how do you expect us to return to Deponia after you mocked the fans in the last game? a real question, the least we expect is an apology, you killed a franchise that had great potential, although I blame more the creator of the franchise, who from what I learned left Daedalic in 2019, being This fact is the only thing that gives me hope for a good Deponia game these days.

Now I want to know what you current and future players and fans think about all this, I'm making this topic to calm my sadness and my anger, I only have these feelings because I saw great potential in the game, the first game is incredible, it's like seeing a person who has a great future, a person who can do something great like curing cancer dying because a criminal wanted to, commenting on my frustration is the only thing I can do at the moment, given that the first game is from 2012 and the last one in 2016, 12 years have passed since the first and 8 since the last.
