Never nice to see. Great game, particularly compared to Dirt 5.

This is nuts, it's one of my favorite games! WTF are they thinking?! >< maybe too many cheaters making it impossible to make progress up the leader board :(

Nothing to do with cheaters or stuff like this, but simply licensing running out.

What about people who decide to get into racing games like I did last year? The only method they have now is to buy a key on a 3rd party site or to get it by unofficial means. It makes no sense especially with how much worse Dirt 5 is. This all started once EA bought them. They also ended Project Cars series and disbanded the dev of that game. Also the servers for Dirt Rally got turned off

It didn't start with EA, this is pretty mich how Codemasters always operated. Look up all of their older games - Dirt 2, 3, Showdown, Grid, Grid 2, Autosport. All of them were up for around 5 years and then removed due to licensing.

And about your argument

Think about it. Most people who wanted to buy the game officialy from Steam did it a long time ago, especially since it was being put up on sale often. What would be the point in renewing the licensing for all the cars, music, branding and other stuff, for thousands of dollars, just so that it would just lay there and gather dust because the majority of the player base doesn't care about this game and has moved on since it came out?

It would be simply a waste of time, cash and resources for them.

Especially since, while Dirt 4 is indeed seen as a better game than Dirt 5, it still isn't a fan favourite like the original 3 games were.

Overall, this is probably also what's gonna happen to DR 2.0 and Grid 2019 in 2 years, since all Codies games seem to operate on a 5 year licensing deal.

Think only the OG Dirt Rally managed to cheat the system, since it was up for 6 years I think.

Good thing I got the game and the DLCs from Eneba. For those who didn't get them on Steam, it's best to buy them now on Eneba or G 2 A before they start to increase the price. I could care less about DiRT Rally, that one is too hard to beat.

Are the DLCs any good?

The Hyundai is worth it, sweet looking car. Decided i didn't need the booster pack so can't comment on that.

agree with everything you just said
now that EA and Codies secured WRC license, i can see they will focus on new big project and then also abandon DR2, i mean since the last DLC it silent for a while now for that game

yeah it's weird for the original Dirt Rally, but then again if you look at it small size content inside it, nothing too flashy, just the custom livery and a single default team livery that used on WRC event that year but without all the small detail, and most of the car is from the past 10+ years, maybe they have an unlimited time deal ? i dont know :steamhappy:
just like their F1 series game ?

If I get a Steam key for the game from a 3rd party, I imagine I can still redeem it on Steam to add it to my library here even though it's not available anymore directly from Steam?

That's correct.
