DiRT 4

Braking sensitivity and what am I missing about asphalt?
Trying to phrase this in a constructive fashion, The brakes on all the D4 cars are like the overassisted power brakes on American land barges in the late sixties. A mere brush of the brake pedal locks them up and skids all four tires. I've tried the brake balance (which is unrealistically set to high forward bias on all standard setups) and I've also lowered brake pressure, and still it's like I'm driving Grandma's Buick Electra. Also stopping distances are unrealistically short on both Gravel and Pavement, cars traveling at 100 mph don't stop in three seconds. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Also, I've seen lots of players saying that the asphalt is more realistic then Dirt Rally, having played the two back to back in the same cars, I'm not feeling it. This is more subjective, but I feel the DR pavement physics are more realistic? Discussion (civil please)

Tarmac feels better due to the improved FFB on that surface, but the cars don't actually act much better. The improvements are very marginal. I'm still getting hovercraft vibes from looking at replays. It looks a little better if you throw the cars around sideways in every corner, but that's hardly ideal.

Can't say I agree about the brakes though, you must be braking superhard to achieve that. I find the stopping distances to be pretty good, or at least better than Dirt Rally's. I also like the fact that the engine braking is a lot weaker than it was in DR.

You'd be surprised how effective competition brake pads and tyres can be.
The braking force can often be higher than the acceleration.

Braking earlier is one suggestion though - It'll give you more time to correct any imbalance in the car and give you space to pump the brakes if you need to. Being smooth and consistent is the foundation of going fast.

Thanks for your replies, Using G27, I've tried adding to brake saturation in the game controls so I only get 90%maximum pedal, but still extremely easy to lock them up, just using the ball of my foot lightly. I've done track days and such in real life so I think I'm picking fairly generous braking points, I'm just looking for more brake modulation as opposed to the on off switch I seem to have now.

svt4cam: Using the G27 (as I do too), you gotta remember that there's no "feedback" in the brake pedal anyway, so it's just your light touch on the pedal and how well you're used to it. You gotta remember the wear and tear of the G27 set. With my use, after some 30.000kms in DiRT 3 and DiRT Rally, the brake pedal and the throttle is well worn.
Also: the physics of DiRT 4 are not perfect yet. Lets hope for some patches during autumn.

Personally, I utterly lack the skill to tune a car (apart from gear timings in DR/D4), so... I have just used whatever brake stuff settings DiRT Rally and DiRT 4 has thrown at me. And in DiRT 4, with that Seat Ibiza left-foot braking through curvy, hilly Spanish tracks reminded me of driving my (much less impressive) '91 Mitsubishi Colt along rural roads in nothern Norway backinthedays; the brakes are pretty good, IMO.

In DiRT Rally you could "feel" the road better than DiRT 4 but i assure you: asphalt in DiRT 4 is more realistic than DiRT Rally, the only problem is, as i said before, the "feeling" with the surfaces

So in Dirt 4 you brake at around 1.2G's on gravel and snow... It's at the very least 50% more powerful than it should be. You're not imagining things. This physics is bogus.

Now the ridiculous 50% extra grip also means 50% extra weight transfer to the front, that's why your default brake balances are heavily biased to the front.

My suggestion is refund.

That explanation makes perfect sense. Well past the point of no return on refund, and I do basically enjoy the game, Codies need to address the handling issues, I'm hoping they will, because the possibility of using multiplayer for league play would be neat, if not then Project Cars 2 or go back to Dirt Rally.
