DiRT 4

Are the Devs bringing back outbreak from DiRT 3? (My favorite gamemode)
Outbreak looked to be the most played mode on DiRT 3... so hopefully they bring it back.

+1 The reason many good players still play Dirt3 over Dirt4 is the fun modes in between racing...cat n mouse, outnreak, transporter...BRING BACK THE FUN!!!

Did you really need to bring back 5 old threads on this topic with the same comment ?

Yes, I actualy did, because otherwise Dirt4 wont be being played in 7 years time like Dirt 3 is...and why is that? hmmm...

Hello! 7 old threads! A game-mode where cars turn green from touching another green car? How about that? I didn't know that such a thing existed in Dirt 3. Highly unlikely it will be in the future... Join a rallycross, landrush or rally-racing club instead!

Oh I can drive (have a look at my profile), in real life as well, and I'm sure you can too. I enjoy RX and rally (but rally mode in DiRT Rally feels much more like driving my real rally car than the Dirt 4 experience - IMHO), but what Dirt 4 lacks is FUN!

What do you play between serious races? theres nothing to do. Even multiplayer joyride at DirtFish arcademy would give you some fun with your friends before the next club race.

Not sure if you're familar with the review system but D4 has only 65% positive reviews...that puts it in the "mixed reviews" category on Steam (DiRT Rally is 90% - Very Positive, Dirt 3 was 91% - also Very Positive). How many more players would rate it positive if they had more content? Obviously you cant please everyone all the time but more choices more options all means more happy players.

Visually D4 is pretty n all (and the weather is superb) but I doubt it will have the longevity of Dirt 3 ...Im just saying why D3 is STILL so popular and what could be added to D4 to make it as popular too.

D4 is aimed at the arcadeyish market as apposed to sim type players, so why not add those fun arcadey type modes into the game? If you dont like it, dont play it, nobody will care if you cant play Outbreak because you get infected all the time and cant drive better to survive. But theres a lot of people who do want it. All the game modes increase overall driving skill, and who doesnt want to drive better?

Perhaps what you have missed is that more content = better popularity = more players in game = more $ (or pounds lol) for CM and then better games for the future. We all want better driving games (hence the feedback system too BTW), thats why we're here, but more players in the games is ultimately better for everybody, and how we get those better games.

Ive got 1300 hours in Dirt 3, 230 in Dirt Rally (with some World Record runs), and a whopping 26 hours in D4. That's just me but I have a lot of friends who are similar in their time-to-game ratios, all in favour of fun.

Its just my 2c, and yeah I could have done it another way instead of reposting the same comment on those threads, but I'm echoing the sentiments of many players who dont play D4 because its not as much fun as D3 (nor as realistic for rally as DiRT Rally). thats it really...

Thanks for the ideas and opinions from the other side of the world! People are divided in different taste, but united in common experience. I think the highlight of the dirt-series is earlier. (Colin mcrae) Dirt and Dirt 2 was the best in my taste. Dirt 3 was a bit neither nor. They always try to reach too many people's taste and please less people doing so. Maybe that's a bit of the Dirt 4 downfall too? But I must say Dirt 4 is a step up in realism and immersion compared to Dirt Rally.

immersion I will agree to a limited point - there is more marshall involvement to make you feel like you are actually doing a stage, but Im assuming you have never actually competed in a real rally? There's no touring, no refuelling, little service involvement or other reality details.

If it's based purely on driving however, then DiRT Rally has much more vehicle feedback, feel, realism and connection to the cars than what I can get with Dirt 4. Many of the stages in D4 I can drive flatout and just steer a bit...I have never EVER been in a real rally car on any stage anywhere where that is even close to reality...(yes I am talking about both driving modes in D4 too)

A lot of people liked the original Colin McCrae Dirt, and also Dirt 2 (me as well), but if we're looking at longevity and popularity (how many people who spent actual money to buy the games), then Dirt 3 and DiRT Rally are Codemaster's most successful titles to date [in the Dirt series I should say...excuse me]. Dirt 3 is 7 years old and still has multiple lobbies in multiplayer. SEVEN YEARS OLD! with 2 newer games out!! Hard to argue against...

Admittedly I have only raced RWD cars in real life, but I have built FWD rally cars and am currently building a 4WD rally car, so I can really only comment on the RWD experience. It is superb in DIrt Rally. It is average at best in D4. The RWD cars in DiRT Rally are much closer to driving my real rally cars (particularly on gravel in Greece and Wales - although this is probably because they mirror some of the surface types we have in New Zealand. Yes that country most of the good drivers in the world love). The only other game that is as good (if not better to some) would be Richard Burns Rally, but hey thats a very old game now...much like Dirt 3 haha

But we digress...this thread is about bringing back fun into a title with a long history...and I for one certainly hope the boys and girls at Birmingham have their ears on...WE WANT FUN TOO!!

Lets face it, once the cars and handling models are built, the coding for some fun modes is probably less of a major issue (given the basic code is already there from the other games), so would it really cost that much in terms of development time? Would it be worth it? Well...it appears that the review system is currently on my side, but I guess we will see...

:)

Good points there mate! I agree about some of the handling, but some of the problems with the older games was the slip-factor is excagerated. Too much slip at low speeds, and less slip at high speeds for easy handling-model. Just look at the early Colin mcRae games that you could drive at 20km/h and still slide in the turns. This is somewhat so also in Dirt Rally, some places like Wales and Greece I feel the handling is right. Somehow the new handling of Dirt 4 is realistic because the slip-factor is more narrow, and when you overdo it, then there is a slide-off. Also have you noticed the warm-up effect? The start of a stage when tyres are cold, you need to take extra care, and afterwards you can throw the car more around! The dislike from me now is the way the rear wheels touch the rough edge of the road only to continue sliding like it was on ice! Australia in particular! That's my biggest complaint now i this game! I could mention Sweden where the side of the road is ice. But hey it could be compacted snow, and that isn't going to let the car slide easily! It's not improved from Dirt Rally other than the narrower slip-factor. They should implement the possibility of rolling you car over instead of sliding sideways like ice! The Dirt Rally flying finland is an example also of this lack, where cars easily rolls over if they get into the ditch with too much sideways and the rear wheel gets in the softer road shoulder IRL!

OK well those are interesting points about the handling models, no i was not aware of the warm up effect in D4, interesting.

But anyway if we get back on topic, I would like to propose that maybe the fun modes from the older games could be included as DLC - that way those who want them can have them at a price, and those who dont, dont have to :)
