Dirt 4 is poorly optimized for PC

This guy has a Ryzen 7 1800X, 16gb ram and a gtx 970.

A gtx 970 can't handle 60fps on ultra 1080p settings (runns around 40fps) in this outdated looking game, while you could run Dirt rally (that uses the same engine as Dirt 4) with a gtx 960 with stable 60fps on ultra 1080p settings.

So we need a gtx 1070 for Dirt 3 graphics now, or what Codemasters ? And the worst thing is that Dirt 3, a 6 year old game made for the xbox 360 still looks better than a 55€ brand new game from 2017.

Wasn't expecting this from Codemasters, since they are known to have great optimized games on PC, if we don't count F1 2015.

AMD and Nvidia haven't even released drivers meant for DiRT 4 yet.

The latest Game Ready driver from NVidia was for Tekken 7 and Star Trek Bridge Crew.

Also, he's livestreaming. Livestreams do tend to lower framerates, even on relatively fast rigs like this bloke's.

Hes got the full version already like many others.

Drivers don't normaly improve performance, in rare cases you maybe get max 10% boost in performance with certain newer gpus.

Livestreaming requires a lot of cpu power (which he has obviously with his 8 core-16 thread cpu), the gpu has nothing to do with livestreaming. Also racing games in general aren't cpu intensive, unless you have a lot of AI cars at the same time on the screen (same goes for multiplayer) and rallys stages have 0 AI on them, which means the gpu is doing the most work here.

i have the version play it on a high end righ it looks better than Dirt Rally but what people wont or havent said is youtube and compression.

if you dont know certain gaming videos or instances youtubes compression sucks. sadly in certain views recording Dirt 4 you get pixelaition.so it may look worse from streams or youtube than it actually is.

i know i record it at 60 fps maxxed out.the game is very nice looking nothing like Dirt 3.

the 970 gtx is not a bad card but its basically 3 years old now. so you got a 2017 game with a 2014 card.

the 1070 gtx is the 970 gtx replacement.so ideally for 1080 ultra settings and 60 fps plus thats what you should have.if you dropped the settings down you would probably play really well on the 970 gtx.also if streaming or recording remember that can take upto half of your performance.

(I did btw and I think the prices of graphics cards are totally insane these days)

you cant win with games.you make them to low spec or not look good people will argue about that you make them absolutely stunning which require good high end pcs people say blah...how am i supposed to run that ! ;D . if you planning on playing modern games you need modern equipment. 970 will play it fine if you drop some settings at 1080 but it is a 2014 card and this is a 2017 game.

970gtx handles 1080p at full settings on single monitor. No need to worry.

A 970/1070 should never be able to run a game on ultra settings at 60fps. Do you not understand the maning of the word ultra? Just lower the settings down to Medium or High and let the people with Ultra graphics cards, 1080 ti, etc, run the game on ultra at 60+fps.

its because of the view and youtube compression.youtube cant cope with certain things.ingame it looks stunning.

Hmm i was thinking this might be the case after almost all footage shown so far was for the PS4 version.
Devs simply don't care about PC gamers these days, it sucks.

A 970 is more than twice as powerful than PS4. If PS4 can run this game at 60fps, so should a 970.

Play at medium.
Cause ps4 is definitively not at ultra.
And gtx 970 is really outdated.

i have a 980ti, and a 970 can still max out a lot of modern games, i know as i had one.
