this game is not my thing i tried to like it but its bad:

Pros:
+ driving feels ok
+ good selection of cars

Cons:
- gunplay feels boring not satesfied like Crashday or Gas Guzzlers
- career missions are boring
- bots are super stupid
- boss battles are boring

Burnin' Rubber 5 HD is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This free mobile app is available on app stores as "Burnin' Rubber 5 Air", but they want your money for it here on Steam. It's supposed to be "specially remastered" for PC but there's no actual difference apart from a couple of graphics settings and 4K support. Visuals and gameplay are identical to the mobile app.

It's possibly the worst entry in a series of Burnin' Rubber games, and really most of that is simply because the developers abandoned everything decent about the game so they could pitch it to more dumbed down gaming devices. I think you can also play this for free on the web, so again, you know, charging money for a browser game on Steam is really a cardinal sin.

From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

The mobile app assets are far from bleeding edge, with lowish polygon counts and somewhat low resolution textures, making this look like it's at least 10 years old. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks poor in comparison to more professionally produced games as a result of their decisions.

The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the mobile app unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. To make matters worse, there's no mouse input, despite this being sold on PC as if it were a PC game. This is unacceptable and somewhat insulting to PC gamers. It's a good demonstration of the poor attitude the developer has towards PC gamers, and this attitude has resulted in yet another defect in this mobile app.

Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone.

These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

Burnin' Rubber 5 HD didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the mobile app, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the mobile app didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for destroying 100 enemies, trivial to get, but less than 34 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the mobile app. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the mobile app.

The poor quality of this mobile app is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality mobile app is to be expected.

The mobile app never really caught on with the millions of gamers on Steam, with a very low peak player count close to launch, and then just a handful of players launching this mobile app every couple of days. This is undoubtedly caused by factors such as those raised in this review. It's always helpful with buying decisions to consider how popular and successful the product is, and unfortunately while this did accumulate a few participation trophy reviews, overall, people just aren't using it.

So, should you buy this mobile app? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?

Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $10 USD, on app stores, it's free. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Who do they think we are? For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "Final Fantasy XIV Online", "Mirror's Edge" or "The Elder Scrolls Online". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.

Feels old. Does not give any real feedback. No satisfaction when destroying other cars. Cars feel wobbly and heavy and don't steer well. This game's good times passed.

game is nice but i want can customise my keybinds by my taste/wish so i can play better pls make this possible :(

Controls like absolute dog water. 5mph or 100mph your car always has the same garbage turn radius. E-brake is completely trash. No idea how anyone can play this garbage

So the "owner" of this game franchise found out about this negative review and decided to ban me and some of my friends in the games discord server because of this review, we might not have been the most positive members in the server but from my perspective, we were all criticizing past entries to the series and giving feedback on footage of the sequel because of our love for the game and wanting to see it be something great, instead of taking our comments as valuable feedback for improvement, he decided to take it as an insult to his entire bloodline and simply get rid of us. Looking back i now realize that while the games were awesome when they came out and are still pretty good, the community is not good, its all a bunch of children being yes men and calling everything the developer does awesome, adults wanting civil discussion are not welcome, while yes we did do some trolling every now and then since the server is mostly dead so there wasnt much else to do and it was all lighthearted fun, my negative review somehow ended up being the worst thing ive ever done (make it make sense). Basically, if you want to get into this game, i would suggest the LegacyShockwave discord server or the speedrunning one (which you can find on this games speedrun.com page) for any discussion instead of the official one. Pre edit review (Oct 2023):To start, I am biased, I started playing this series on browser when I was like 4, anyway.

This game seems like a fun combat racing game at first but then you realize, oh the starter car is like the best car for 1/3 of the game, cars barely steer even though every track has 10 90-degree corners, being in first place guarantees getting shot in the back by 5000 rounds of 7.62N (I'm assuming, I mean come on its a minigun), some of the weapons are so stupid OP that they are just unfun to fight against (like really, deployable minigun turrets that you can just keep SLAMMING down and that will kill you 5 times in the same spot?), boss battles where you either dodge mines and die 5 times or win instantly because your car has OP weapons and can 1 shot everything. As a browser game (especially from its time) its really good, but as a Steam game remade in Unity, this kinda sucks man, it has a lot of potential but the developer already abandoned their last project they spent 3 years working on, the only update being like removing collision from a tree texture or something just for it to die and rot (i want my money back seriously), this game is also outdated with the Itch.io version being on a newer patch. If you have time to kill and this game is on sale then go for it but it's not worth 10 euros...

oh and basically every other review here is ranting about nostalgia, don't listen to them

I tried my best to enjoy this game. It's clearly made by a small team and it meant to be a silly racing shooter but nothing about it ever felt right. Even as I tried to turn my brain off and enjoy the gunplay there wasn't much of anything to enjoy and I found myself bored most of the time as I shot at my enemies. Nice idea, but some more polish would go a long way with this one.
