a single hint please? (spoilers)
so i'm at the surface of refuge, right? i'm at the factory, there's this color lock, and as it turns out i only get 10 tries. i've found the back alley, elevator street, vendor street, and library. I've talked to so many people as to try and find a hint, i've found that one room at has an x that looks like the close window button when you hover your mouse over it. i'll attach a picture with my items too.
i've already seen that i should write down my attempts, okay i'll do that, take it one color at a time, sure like that helps me at all when the game gives me no feedback about how to solve it other than when it's wrong. there's 5 slots, 4 colors to a slot, 4^5 gives 1024 possible combinations. I cannot figure out what to do for life of me.
i can't figure out what to do with the lenses, i figure that'll be relevant when i get into the factory, haven't figured out how to get a library card either, i don't even know if i'm supposed to get one at this point and time.

Ah. First off, after the ten tries the combination simply changes. You do not get locked out of the room permanently. You can try until you get an easy combo. Secondly, it is designed to be a logic puzzle. You will get past through process of elimination. Try all of each colour (except one, to save an attempt) first to determine how many of each will be present in the final combo, and go from there. For example, when all spots are yellow, it might tell you there are two yellows in the combo, represented by the bot saying that two spots are correct.

Also, switch individual lights, then check again. If your correct counter went down, then the previous colour of the light you switched was correct.

For example:
First try: all yellows - 2 correct
Second try: all blue - 2 correct
Third try: all green - 0 correct
We now know that green must have one light, to fill in for the 5th correct light, saving us an attempt. We now have 7 attempts where we know exactly how many of each colour there is, which is much more manageable.

Alternatively, you can lay out this puzzle in a grid. Top labelled one to five, sides labelled Y, B, G, R. Cross off colour options under each light in the order as they become impossibilities.

There is a note in the lab stating you can always reset the puzzle and hope for an easier code. Good on you for having the mindset to be careful though!
