The original version could do that as it was free, though with the paid Steam remake the entire concept of "OneShot" itself had to be changed.

Yes, death also counts as an ending. If you reach that ending you are still not allowed to play again.

What if you just download it again afterwards?

You would still not be able to play the game again. The only ways that you would be able to play the original version a second time is to either use a new computer, factory reset your computer, or edit the windows registry.

yeah, the original game was rough. If they did that on Steam, they would be rated Mixed at best, deleted from Steam at worst.
