What do I do after I open the safe and get the gas mask?

I stopped playing for a while and returned just now to try and finish it, but I can't remember what I'm suppose to do next. I looked up a few walkthroughs of it but I'm still confused.

After getting the gas mask, you need to go to the dormitories and get a plastic syringe. Next, go to the factory (the area next to it) and get a sponge and gloves. After getting those three, you need to go to the Shrimp Swamp and use a syringe on a bubble of phosphor (it will look different than the others) then go up a head to the north-west and find a very short gas-producer-thing. Interacting with all of the others with the bottle will make Niko say "I can't reach the top, (player)...
but interacting with this one with the bottle will make Niko put the gas in the bottle. Next, combine the bottle of gas and the phosphor syringe, that will make a bottle of acid. Next, combine the bottle of acid with the sponge to make a wet sponge. Give that to Rowbot to go the Glen.

In case you're wondering, the Shrimp Swamp is up from the docks, the dormitories is the right of that and the factory is the the right of the dormitories.

Edit: Forgot to mention, after giving Rowbot the wet sponge, you need to go back to Silver and talk to her.
