a little disappointed by OneShot's missing feature
so as some of you know I made a video covering this game and doing my best to spread the word about it.

for those who haven't seen it you can find it on YouTube and Vidme here:

UnderRadar: Special Episode - OneShot[vid.me]

I love OneShot to death and one of the big reasons was because of the title's name being the main mechanic of the game, which was that you had ONE SHOT at beating it.

I based most of my information in the video on the original version of the game, and eventually realized that the game no longer has the ONE SHOT feature in it.

I want to be VERY CLEAR here and say I ♥♥♥♥ING LOVE ONESHOT!

I love OneShot so much I made a mini review of the original game when it was still a contest entry for an RPG maker contest, because I felt OneShot deserved to win above all else.

I love the dev team and their passion for this game and the hardwork they put into making this game a reality.

With all that said, I'm a bit disappointed.

OneShot's ONE SHOT mechanic was basically one of the biggest appeals of the game, where your only way to save was through sleeping in the bed and if you closed the game before hand then you'd have to start the entire game again. Now with the game saving when you close the game, it no longer feels like OneShot, but ManyShots since there's no more danger or tension in the game.

I'm 100% sure the devs had good reasoning for doing this huge game on the game, but I just wanted to voice my opinion of it, because that mechanic was such a big deal back then and it really made me love OneShot for being innovative and not being afraid of doing something unexpected and somewhat crazy.

I want to take this time to apologize to the devs, and anybody I may offend with my opinions. I just felt like sharing my thoughts on a game I love so much and gladly supported as soon as it was released.

It's the kind of feature that's okay to do for a freeware title, but if we did it in the commercial version I can only imagine that people would not be happy to be locked out of a game they paid money for.

locked out? if we're talking about the Ending where the game is unplayable after you beat it I can understand that part, and I'm okay with that part being changed, but I figured the original concept of OneShot being "if you close the game then you have to restart it again" was still something that could work for a commercial release, especially since you guys had the bed saving mechanic that would allow people to find a place to save the game and take a break before continuing.

part of me was thinking about what if that feature could be optional, but I later realized that doesn't really work as most people would pick how it currently is now. I 100% understand you guys and your reasoning for doing it, just a bit saddened that it had to go.

either way I still love the game, the story, and it's lovable characters like Silver, Niko, Rowbot, etc. so this post was more of me just getting it off my chest.

I do appreciate the response :) and I'm looking forward to Tess and the Forgotten Friend. Really excited about it and I want to cover that game on my show as well whenever it's released.

This may be slightly off topic, but I think there might be a way to truly reset the game. Undertale said the same things about its game remembering things, but if you delete the stuff in the confit files you can start fresh.

So...in theory...there should be something in the game's files that you can erase to start again.

When I beat the game I found out that there was a third file in the My Games folder for OneShot that said save progress. Probably deleting that can allow the game to restart.

The game actually does want you to reset the game. you find this information by opening up the clover EXE just like what you had to do when Niko wouldn't wake up. Not only would you be able to play again, but the dialoge does change as well. starting off with Niko's first word being you pc's name, and then confused to why the name sounded fimilar.

As an anecdote - my first plathrough, I didn't realize closing the game would auto-save it (I either missed the note about it in the notes screen or it wasn't there at the time), so I ended up playing through parts multiple times. It was more frustrating than anything else, honestly - because Niko just ended up at the last bed they were in, it felt like 'lost progress' rather than 'just one shot'.

I like to think the game no longer is oneshot in the sense of "you only have one session to play through the game," and more "you only get one complete playthrough." The game *does* lock itself after completion.

And the agent that lets you play through it again isn't the same one that locks the game, after all...

If you wanna talk about missing features, how about the missing true ending? Its killing me, I swear.
