It's only the Steam version that released in 2016.
Assuming it's attempting to be UNDERTALE 2.0 because it's an indie game played from a birds-eye view is wise.
Ah, I stand corrected then. But if you're thinking about buying it, it is pretty good.
?
No, you were correct, what I wrote was meant for the OP, OneShot released in 2014, Undertale in 2015, Steam version of OneShot came in 2016 and Solstice in 2017 (and if you want to be entirely accurate about it, then the Undertale KS and demo was released before OneShot, but it was so limited in scope that it isn't really fair to say OneShot took anything from it, e.g. the 4th wall breaks weren't part of the early reveal of Undertale IIRC).
But yeah, anyway, it's silly to say that this game ripped off Undertale, not just because it came before, but also because they play entirely differently with a few overlapping themes, if you're going to go down that rabbit hole anyway you may as well say Undertale ripped off Mother / Earthbound, anyway, OP, just play it, it's good.
*exhales* B O I
I usally don't like things like this but the game deserves the recognision it's getting.
Really love this game though, counted down the days for it to launch to new content after my 5th playthough my PC broke before it came out and I only recently got a new one and the S update was spoiled for me about a week ago
But the focus of these themes are completely different. Undertale's about moral choice in RPG's being baked into the battle system, with many differences based on your choices.
OneShot is about your connection with your character, your character's connection to the world, and (without going into spoiler territory) the nature of a video game as a self-contained world. You have far less choices to make (you can't kill everyone, for one) but the ones you do hit all the harder because of some very clever writing and emotional buildup.
So they're very different but very emotional experiences. People that liked one have a good chance of enjoying the other. Other than that, overcomparing them's a bad idea imo. (and so's suggesting that the fanbase will go to crap because that's a self-fufilling prophecy.)
