cant figure out what to do next

I'm still in the barrens I'm at the point where the only objective seems to be make a solvent to remove the rust from the boat bot. I've already taken care of powering up the barrens and unlocking the chest in the cliffs my inventory consists of empty bottle, sponge, strange journal, rubber gloves, lightbolb, crowbar, empty syringe, and gas mask

Hint #2: Robots who work near gas vents are rust-free.
Hint #3: Pools with blue shrimp have a bubble over them.

now nikko cant seem to reach the gas vents so where do I get the acidic gas
