Why was the worst ending cut from the Steam version?
I've read that in the original game, there were possible 3 endings in a stardard playthrough where you get Niko to the tower and get the 2 options. They were either pick any of the 2 choices or quit the game.
If you quit the game in the original version of the game, you would get the worst ending possible where Niko would apparently commit suicide (Can't confirm this) because you didn't help him pick. The World Machine also sends you this lovely message: "You killed Niko" before the game closes itself.
However, on the Steam version, only 2 endings are here with them being picking either one of both options. Quitting at that point just acts like the normal "Save and Quit" from any point in the game.
Why was this ending removed in the Steam remake?

No, Niko doesn't commit suicide. In the old version, if you quit the game without going to sleep the world gets deleted, including Niko. You can't play the game again. I presume it was removed cuz that's kind of lame, but they still reference it if you exit the game without going to sleep (everything goes dark and Niko is surrounded by pitch blackness until you restart the game)

I'm glad they didn't put it in steam version. It is the worst possible ending I ever have seen.

In the original version of the game, if you closed out the game at any point without using a bed, Niko would be killed because the world didn't exist anymore. When the world comes back (aka you open the game), Niko is dead because they aren't code.
This was removed from the Steam version because it'd be kind of a bad idea to make a game so easily lost if you paid money for it.

Tnx for clearing stuff up guys. Now it makes some sense as to why they removed it. I originally thought that the bad ending was achieved by quitting at the final decision room, not anywhere in the world. I guessed the original had the standard "save and quit" until that room.

Simple legal problems, you can't make a game that becomes unplayable completly.
