Misa the dark mage elf can't recruit anyone except fur**es
So I decided to play as a minor character Misa; a avassal of Lion who happens to be the exiled sister that was mentioned in the Alfheim campaign. I think; oh well lorewise it seems like an interesting character. So I played as a Lion vassal for a few turns and then roam. After some savescumming I eventually manage to plant flag and established a new faction M&B style. Unfortunately I quickly found that I was defaulted to only recruit fu**ies mage and no heroes at all ( I do finally get lucky managing to recruit one fu**ies character).

So I thought ok thats ok I'll tried to recruit elves character than. Apparently that too doesn't workout. Even my supposed "sisters" doesn't want to join me after Alfheim was destroyed. So now I'm stuck spamming fu**ies mage to death read army style against heroes with AOE attack that decimate even my high levels fu**ies mage. What the hell? I mean I already conquer almost the whole of Reinald Empire and Apotekara's castle (through suicidal assaults). The survivors consist of a bunch of heroes that took refuge in the mines below the castle.

Dislodging them with my fu**ies mage ends up in downright massacre and the only reason I manage to hold on against musket and Fevnir to my north is thanks to an alliance with the lizards that I coerced to helped my defense. So anything to do short of modifying the game's code?

That's all intended design. Miisa is an outcast by choice and summoning demons is punishable by death in Elven society. She's on bad terms with her sisters (mostly Mirka) and Ephemeral.

However, there some interesting options for you if you don't want to edit code, which is actually really easy if you do. Miisa can hire Yocto by "friendship". She can also hire Devil Dark Mages, which realistically only means Iblis from the Crime faction. Iblis can then hire Leraje from the Crime faction. Yocto also happens to be able to hire Petra from Alcatraz, and she can hire Dina, Averil, Wishbone, elf bowmen, and human lightmages which will give you access to most laborors, rogues and lizardmen. You'll be able to get Rex from Corrado which will give you access to all the elves except Ephemeral, Mirka, and Miisa, and basically everyone else. It will take a while to be able to hire Leandre though, and you probably can't hire any dwarves.

Oh ok; and what is this friendship mechanic exactly?

I’ve tried looking it up through the internet and no mentions of enacting friendship between characters.

If you hover your cursor over a character, it will say which type of comrades they can hire. A comrade needs to be one of the races listed and one of the classes listed in order to be hired. Some comrades can just hire other comrades by name because of story reasons, like in Miisa's case. Yocto is the demon she summoned, so of course she can hire him. Usually they're friends, but in this case it's more like a contract or slave/master relationship...that's why I said "friendship".

There are some caveats that prevent some comrades from being hired such as personal enemy status, loyalty to another comrade, and bad racial affinities.

There's a guide in the guide section on recruiting comrades that's mostly accurate and the unofficial manual translation also probably explains it poorly.

ah I see thank you for the reply. Too bad its very circumstantial then.

Another option to increase your recruitment pool with Miisa is to get Collie/Elephant : both can recruit Crookes, who herself can recruit Lars, thus giving you an opening in Human Commanders.

For a full list of who can recruit who and special exceptions you can check the guides section. I wrote a pretty comprehensive a year or so ago

I found another cheeky alternative. So when you roam as Misa; become a mercenary commander. This allows you to recruit generic elves from Ausonia Forest into your leader squad. (in fact I think you actually can recruit elven character when roaming, however the recruiting price is simply exorbitant being around 30k+ which is hard to reach).

After you raise flag make sure that these elves stay alives until a point that you can recruit Alfheim's characters. (You cannot recruit generic elves as Misa after raising flag even if you visited Ausonia Forest). Once those characters are in your territory you can recruit them according to their respective class with those generic elves.

Using this method. I manage to recruit Trudelisse, Wald, and Meinrad using elven archers (Guard). The window allows me to recruit Mina using elven heroes or generic elves, but she refused to serve (presumably due to aformentioned reasons above). Unfortunately I only recruited elven archers; which only allowed me to recruit elven character of that class. I assumed I should've been able to recruit Wald had I recruited an elven swordsman earlier.

That being said with Misa I manage to achieve her "revenge" by liberating Ausonia Forest from the lizards (destroying them by cutting off the leader in the process). Apparently fur**es mage are very effective against lizards that I only took few casualties when engaging them.

This playtrough do made me wonder, is there any more content on Misa on the Japanese version? The Alfheim campaign only mentioned her briefly and even then there is no event when engaging her in the campaign.

Misa is part of the Lion faction which hasn't been translated yet, so most of her content lies there. There is actually a battle event in story mode if Misa, Yocto, Mirka, and Mina are part of the battle, which you can activate while playing as Alfheim in the english version.

Lizards are weak to magic in general.

And yeah, if you're a vassal or roaming I think you can just hire anyone of the same race, regardless of class. There aren't usually any roaming elves until their factions are destroyed, so what happened for you isn't that reliable.

Compare the lizard fighters's RES stats to other race's fighter and you'll understand why you tore them appart with your Therianthrope casters.
With the notable exception of Barat and his Poison mage ( lizard have native res to poison ), pretty much every caster will harshly damage the lizard fighter.

Miisa probably have some event in the Lion campaign to expand her storyline, but considering how dead this place is and the speed of the translation, we'll probably never know.

Actually, poison mages deal toxic damage with their direct attacks, which lizards and other demi-humans are very weak against. Lizards are just a bit strong against the poison status those attacks would inflict. Not intuitive, I know.

Well that certainly breaks my view on them as the unbreakable uber infantry.
