I foresee many people quitting in the midst of a game.
I could see a co-op mode where friends take ships in a battle group and play the AI.
Most turn based games I've played online instituted a time limit per turn.
It would be asking a lot to implement MP in this game and then will we put up the servers or are you expecting Killerfish to pay for them too?
There is no reason to have dedicated game servers in a simple turnbased game structure. They can simply be networked through direct P2P hosting. Also, the turn based multiplayer games I have played on Steam which instutute a turn time limit are XCOM, Battlelore, Battlefleet 2, Frozen Synapse, and Memoir 44.
Ever heard of Advance Wars? Was super popular when Nintendo WiFi Connection was still up.
As a small self-funded studio we have to pick our battles (pun intended) and ensure we can get games finished with the resources on hand. Online multiplayer would have significantly extended development time for a game (and a studio) untested in the PC space.
Rather than get too ambitious and release vaporware, unfinished or buggy titles, we're taking it step-wise to see how each of our games are received, reacting to player feedback, deciding the next steps and using game sales to fund those next steps:
Pacific Fleet -> Atlantic Fleet -> Atlantic Fleet PC Edition -> *insert dream naval game here*
Dream naval game would already be Altlantic Fleet 2 running on of the latest engines with in depth strategic map of Atlantic with extensive modding support and emphasis on multiplayer !
I would love a non turn based setting too :)
