I imagine a destroyer screen would be able to put up a curtain of FLAK so one on either side of the target ship may help. I suggest destroyers as reasonably cheap and have reasonable AAA firepower.

histrorically light cruisers and destroyers did most of the screening. i am aware of that. but does the game take such historic facts into conisderation? is there a way to find out how many AAA guns each ship has?

destroyer flak is almsot uselss. Generally the bigger the ship the better the AA. in a hutten I managed to shoot down 6/8 aircraft from a escort carrier in a single turn.

Hutten is a big ship tho... and expensive.

that was an example

As far as I can tell there is no way of knowing exactly the weight of firepower each ship has for it's AAA. I imagine that each ship will have firepower commensurate with it's tonnage hence the Hutten shooting down lots of aircraft. I am curious which game mode you are playing as I mention the expense of ships which is only really relative to Battle of the Atlantic or Campaign mode. If you are playing skirmish battles then cost is not an issue.

for Battle of the Atlantic mode the ship cap of 30 makes historical fleets or BB TF configs useless. General rule is biggest ships you can buy with at least 1 DD/DC per group to start battle with subs, without one they get an 'event' damaging your BB with no battle. Priority on DDs is Torps>guns because the best weapons to kill subs are torps and even CA/CLs have those if you have at least 1 DD/DC to spot the sub.

since this game is based on history my guess would be to look up the historical AA armerment of the ships. And as for the hutten (it wasnt built), well I already told you how good that is.

In summary: Nobody here has any idea and is guessing into the blue.

I am going to assume you struggle with English as I did answer the question and then some. ESL folks do tend to have trouble when you add information. So the shorter answer is:

General rule is biggest ships you can buy

There are missing ship designs in game that were specific AA platforms. The US 'Atlanta' CL's for example. The Brits had a dedicated AA CL as well, can't remember the class name.

The British never really had to deal with AA in the Atlantic as the ships in the Pacific had to deal with. By the end of the war though USN and RN ships bristled with light, medium and heavy AA guns from 20mm to 5in guns. Early war designs we pretty scant on light and medium close in AA, lessons had to be learned.

My solution as German is pretty much historic, an all U-boat fleet in playing Battle of the Atlantic.

The issues, has it has been discussed many times on these forums, is that this is a webapp game port and as such is not a 'historical simulator'. AA in this game is simply more expensive=better. It simply is not modeled on a detailed level enough to make 'picket ships' or other naval AA stratagies translate to within the game. Buy bigger=win in Atlantic Fleet.

On the Uboat front, the Uboat play is the simplest win in campaign, I have gotten victory in max difficulty in just over a year with an all Uboat strat. Fun in this game however is playing the surface raider strat as Axis imo.
