Start copying Sea of Thieves
Just clone some sea of thieves features and get this show on the road! SoT is amazing but the art style is for kids. Hoping this game has some much needed new features besides ships. The water is poor. You swim through rocks. The gameplay gets stale very quickly as its all combat and no treasure hunting.

Blackwake is a Naval Battle Game so plase don't b**** about it. It's not a childish adventure game. Don't get me wrong I like Sea of Thieves too it's good in its platform but Blackwake's purpose is making teamwork, tactics and realistic naval battles I've had enough of this section. Thanks for your apprehension.

Two very different games with two very different goals.
Also, I think Blackwake water is pretty nice. Stormy map water is gorgeous.

I think each game has their own different things and different features! Myself tried the beta of SoT alot of times and I have to say I loved the exploration of it, although in Blackwake I love the Naval Combat and all the different details here and there!

Pls no!!!!! This game is so freckn good! But some land maps, Castle or omaha "village" beach style maps would be nice!!! Add a few groundbattle maps, loved the bf1942 pirates mod: best musket fights ever!!!! Theres nothing better than two pirates fighting in the sand, 2 guns/shots and a saber everyone...may the best pirate win!

I dont want a Sea of Thieves type of game, I want a Pirates of the Burning Seas type of game with Blackwake art style and ship/melee(well an improved melee) combat.

I am kind of getting the impression that even if they had the funding and a big enough development crew to do some wouldn't want it.

If they had the funding why couldn't they keep this mode and add an open world module that could be expanded on?

I understand with their funding and small crew this is probably a pipe dream but I find it a nice dream.

The more you expand the larger your player base and player retention get right? This is an awesome foundation to build on, sorry I will stop rambling now.................................................

The $20 wasn't worth your 105 hours played? At some point all arena games become repetitive, especially considering we're more of a battlefield type naval experience.

Blackwake will remain a PVP focused arena game. If you want an open world game play Sea of Thieves.

That's not true at all, people buy a game due to the experience it initially brings. When you expand the scope beyond the original concept, it alienates anyone that was a fan of the original vision. If we wanted to an open world game we would have, but our original vision was always akin to something like Battlefield. Based around short arena rounds of fun and player based skill.

Not true I have played over 2000 hours in Mount & Blade Warband multiplayer (didnt really get into the single player) and the overwhelming majority of hours spent in it was in the cRPG mod that expanded on the scope beyond the original concept. Adapt and evolve.

I dont regret my purchase of this game but it seems that you guys want to hobble it even if it had the funding needed to add a persistant open world mode of it. Why couldn't you add a seperate mode to it I mean if you had the money and the manpower?

Maybe find a way to make it moddable if you can get the funding to and let some make their open world mode with it.

Tyler responded previously so I'll weigh in since I'm the programmer. This is such a huge undertaking it isn't even funny. The game was not only NOT built to be expanded past an arena game (we were 19/20 when we made it, we had no idea it would be this big) it was also not written in a way where we can easily add on new programmers. Throwing money around does not get you anywhere unless you're spending it where you know it'll matter. Every time you expand you risk collateral damage to the existing game and waste enormous amounts of time fixing what has been broken, this is why AAA studios have quality assurance departments.


I have about 700 hours in cRPG for M&B. It did not offer much more than Blackwake other than builds and gear that made you stronger the more you grind. We don't like that formula, we like skill to depend on you and not any items. The mod was hugely successful but when the developers left to make Of Kings and Men... it was another story. You can't just say we're hobbling around and x and y would make the game even better. This industry is incredibly unpredictable.


I'm sorry that we've apparently done so well at what we have that we have to turn down requests to expand and disappoint many, but we've never hinted or advertised that we may go that route. The only reason we have what we have right now is because we focused and kept our eye on the gameplay we wanted. We didn't spread ourselves too thin when developing.


Sea of Thieves was created by a studio with about 200 developers and funded by none other than Microsoft, and it's subreddit is tipping over as we speak. This should put into perspective how expensive and tedious game development actually is.


We are definitely expanding as an arena pvp game, but to step into any sort of pve/rpg territory is not in our plans.

Well I hope your game succeeds but I am of a different opinion of what a mod offered more than a base game because cRPG did. That being said I also play the base game if the mod is dead.

From what I remember cRPG just added more clothes, weapons, stat builds, and gold. The only other thing I remember it doing was forcing manual block play

If its bloody enough people won't care about repetitive gameplay, becaue nothing is same. This is the beauty of PVP
