How is this game any different than Sea of Thieves
Having played both, the gameplay is exactly the same. Except Sea of Thieves is more polished and has better animations.

So what makes Blackwake stand out to you all?

-SoT's ship controls require you to have a shipmate. i actually tried sailing it solo back then. it was an absolute chore to do. blackwake's controls are dead simple, perfect for the fast teamfights it has. trust me you don't want to lose because people don't know how to do sails or that one asshat that keeps on dropping the anchor to troll.

-SoT is a sandbox sailing game. perfect for groups, absolutely miserable for solo players like me. Blackwake is a PVP ship battle game, good for both groups and solos.

-SoT is made by Rare, a properly-sized dev-team with the resources and cash backing to make everything look polished (they are owned by Microsoft, hence why it's on the windows store instead of Steam). Blackwake is made by Mastfire, which is basically 2 guys somewhere out there, and never enough time to make it THAT good in terms of anims and optimization.

-SoT is more cartoony, suitable for kids. Blackwake has you fly out of ships in bloody nuggets because it ain't PG13

in the opinion that OP clearly hasn't played enough of both to notice these VERY OBVIOUS differences.

Eh no. It`s time that Steam puts an end to those fake-advertisements. Everyone can see gameplay videos of Sea of Thieves and they are super boring. There is no action in SoT and the graphics and gameplay are completely different. Did you even play Blackwake?

Blackwake is a Team vs team match. You battle off in ships crewed by people or allied bots. SoT is just sandbox boring stuff.

I did play Blackwake. And I just felt like I was playing SoT again lol. That's how similar the gameplay is. Blackwake is basically SoT stripped of its questing, with realistic instead of cartoony graphics.

Anyway I'm really just wondering how the Blackwake players view Blackwake next to SoT. Like why you prefer one over the other.

The ship mechanics were actually better in SoT honestly. You need to tack and maneuver the sails in SoT, which is handled automatically in Blackwake. But I feel like that adds quite a bit of realism to a sail sim and it's disappointing Blackwake doesn't have a similar mechanic. Blackwake also seems to lack a compass which is odd lol

Blackwake is a fast paced game, the compass isn`t needed. You will have enemy contact every 0-30 seconds. During longer sailing time, you can drink a cup of tea or sip on your rum bottle. There is lots of action, that`s why we love it so much. You can set sails as a captain between stop-slow-medium-fast.

I'm really not sure how we are comparing these games and claiming they are anything alike. I feel like we may as well add AC4 to this because they are all pirate games. May as well include sid meier's pirates as well.
One is based on a handful of people playing pirates to make videos to make the game seem interesting between going onto an island and fighting the enemies that just kind of exist before grabbing treasure and leaving. Even the pvp aspect is a simplistic take.
The other is a pvp game where you are health points to the ship and your life is completely expendable where going more than 2 minutes without an engagement generally means something went very wrong where 27 v 27 is the name of the game, it is a constant battle between repairing and firing cannons.

Even my friends who were dead set on buying SoT told me pretty much 2 days after it came out that they were bored with it already so I shouldn't buy it.

From what I remember, SoT has ships that only fit up to 4 players. Blackwake has two teams each with 3 ships, 2 seven and 1 thirteen filled ship.

Way more authentic naval experience with a bigger crew.

And how does the direction of the wind not play any part in a sailing game like Blackwake?

"Way more authentic naval experience with a bigger crew." lol a very lackluster incomplete naval experience sadly...

What? The sheer size of engagements is completely different, and so is combat.

The $2 price tag I got it for.

Blackwake is more fast paced and I particularly like the graphics style used in the game. Sea of Thieves is way too cartoonish, especailly the small arms. The quests were garbage. The sailing mechanic in SoT was nice, and I liked some of the things that were on the ships that players could use, but SoT is an all round boring game.

I always thought Blackwake was something special, it's kind of casual but it can also get intense. I've had a lot of fun playing it and there's been a lot of hilarious moments. And that's why I keep coming back to it.

Honeslty, I hope the developers expand the game or something because I really like what they've done with it. and I know there's a lot of people like me that will definitely continue to support them if they make more stuff.

Blackwake is cheaper, simpler, fun, effective in the action its developers are trying to provide, and because its so simple and fun and straight forward its better

What the second comment said: The thieving waters offers less action plus it has cartoonish graphics...
On the other hand the dark awakening gives you combat at any given time plus you can drink tea like a tru gentleman while in battle.

sot is a bit tame or? it would be good with gear progression, like a RUST at sea, but no
