-shrug- A bit rough, but promissing start.

It was a long time coming. We tried tooltips, no one reads. We tried a video, no one watches. So now we're shelling out to have a short mandatory tutorial developed that you'll only have to play through once.

It should help new players not run around like mindless, headless chickens when they first get the game. Improving the cooperative experience of their first match.

It is also a work in progress, will continue to be updated. We would like to have more features covered by time the winter seasonal sale comes.

people believe that the average new player has the brain of a toddler.

A bit rough around the edges, but much respect for making this, and thoroughly impressed by your proactiveness.
If new players can at least know these basics, the rest is just a normal learning curve.

It's not how they are, but it is how they behave. It is definitely our fault though for throwing them onto a packed ship with so much to do in such a small area with no guidance. Too many players simply trying to understand the game on your ship will cause your ship to not function correctly, leading to bad early experiences.

1. Tutorial should look more like the actual game. Esspecially the items, repair bar and so on. Also sail damage looks nothing like in the game.
2. Repair bars often freeze.
3. It does not always behave like ingame. I.e. you can't look around while repairing, you have to be way more close to the object you want to repair.
4. It currently teaches new players to pump AFTER repairs. Just had a game as captain where I had to convince players that pumping while others repair is important.
5. It should allow players to act before the guy talking is done. Some people read the instructions faster or realise what they should do faster and they will get annoyed by haveing to wait till the "narrator" is done all the time.
6. When multiple approaches are possible the tutorial should allow them. I.e. let the player decide which side of the rigging they go up.

If you could drop these points in the tutorial feedback channel on discord we'll relay them to the tutorial developer

Given you have already seen it I would recomend Ctrl + C and Ctrl + v. Won't rejoin BW dircord aslong as long as the reasons I gave for leaveing are not adressed.

About time that MP-games like Blackwake force tutorials upon newcomers. Because like Mastfire said, the majority won't even read tooltips or bother learning the game before jumping right into the action and then spend the match with trying to figure out how stuff works instead of being useful.
If they aren't so oblivious to their surroundings that they will only notice something when it's smacked right into their face (Like me, sometimes), that is.

I get it, you want to join in the fun immediately, and if you are already doing well in the first match, then kudos to you. But the average newbie isn't and it often becomes obvious that that respective player has absolutely no idea on how the game works. Then the more experienced players become frustrated and may insult/yell at them.

And besides, I'm sick of games with lazy developers delegating the task of teaching new players to other players. Personally I dislike videos from players because English isn't my native language and some "instructors" are either hard to understand (speaking too fast/unclearly or with an accent) and/or don't show everything you need to know.

cant get past tutorial, because the game wont fit my screen. I can't get to setting because its forcing me to play the tutorial. Now I can't play the game anymore. Another player lost till this is fixed.

Quitting the tutorial with alt+f4 marks it as complete meaning it won't launch again unless intentionally launched.

The tutorial is cancer.
Make a better UI instead.
Use icons, use glowing outlines - do whatever, but NEVER force me to play a tutorial for a game I already know.

We had tooltips and a video and neither worked. A tutorial was the final option.

It can be skipped by quitting, it'll be flagged as complete
