fps stutter
how come my fps keeps dipping and rising? I get a 100fps and then it randomly drops 20-30 and then it goes back up.

Is this during the start of a match? When a lot of players are joining or spawning in you may stutter but it should even out.

It happens throughout the match

- Are you doing anything specific when it drops from 100 FPS to 20? (such as ONLY when you fire a cannon, or when a fire is ignited)?; ie. particle effects?

- Is is a constant 50-100 fps range, and still stuttering? or only the sudden drops?

- Does it run fine, but stutter only when looking at objects close up? (such as barrels, masts, or cannons), and jitter lightly? (ie. "microstutter")?

- Is there any artifacting? (Flickering graphics, green/blue/red/etc colors flashing on the screen at random, often in spike-looking formations?)

- Does the problem happen with V-Sync enabled?

- Have you updated to the latest NVIDIA or AMD graphics card drivers (or driver beta)?

- Have you attempted editing the CFG with other user's fixes to see if it works for you? Some, like Dhalucard, edited the CFG and changed some settings), disabled FXAA (also via CFG), and ran from EXE and their problem was resolved. - Also, OneEyetyler also made this previous post:

Also anyone that jumped in like recently and still have issues try:

1. Please make sure your Nvidia GPU is not in "Power saving mode" and set to max performance instead. As seen here:

http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3130/~/setting-power-management-mode-from-adaptive-to-maximum-performance

A few of you have said this has fixed the issue.

2. Gaming monitors above 60hz may cause crashing consistently unless you have Vsync turned ON.

3. Try and set "-window-mode exclusive" as a launch option on Steam.
I am having some microstutters at above 60 fps, does anyone else experience this or is it silky smooth? I remember it used to be fine but I am getting some of that stutter in other games as well so could be my PC.
Why is the game using 99-100% of my gpu even in screen where you create char/set outfit etc? I have Nvidia gtx660. I know its outdated but Warband doesnt and Sea of Thieves beta didn't.

It may be because the entire multiplayer game is in memory when at the menu (that is the reason for the long startup time), it helps you connect faster at which point cpu usage begins to balance out the gpu

Nevermind, the stutter stopped after I set shadows and ocean quality to medium and now I get a consistent 90-110 fps.
