Is the game worth buying?
As I see there aren't many online players around and it's in alpha.

Yeah it is.
But at first you have to learn a bit about it maybe on youtube or something
For the basics u know?
After that this game can be funny with the right crew and the right captain =)

I'd recommend sticking to the UK servers (Ahoy and Fleet) and Warlords Wrath should you decide to get the game. Moderators are active and most people are willing to help new players learn if you ask.

Yeah I watched the game and read many reviews. It seems fun really. But I'm afraid that the player base won't grow. I know it's in alpha but its improving slowly, maybe too slowly. I would want to buy the game but I just fear that in some months very few will play it or that devs will stop updating it "As long as Blackwake breathes we'll keep her fed with content".

Its worth, its not the biggest, but a pretty addicted playerbase.

So far ull find a server to play on 24/7.

IF u need to play on a different continent a 200 ping doenst stops it from running smoothly.

It takes not long to learn the game mechanics and once youve got it youll have some great fun ;)

As long as there is 1 active server since ping doesnt matter much, we'll keep updating the game. We'd like to finish the game anyway, abandoning a game as early access would be a huge burden. We've been working on this as a hobby since 2013 so why give up now? We can just keep chugging on the game and making it better.

Game is never funny imo, captains are too serious. Most laid back captain I found only let us have craic during voting. Game isn't fun but more of a sim.

Gotta love the motivation you guys have for this. I appreciate this a lot, thank you.

It's not worth it, plays more like a glorified mod that you have to pay for instead of being free. It's buggy, animations are ugly, voice acting tries to be funny but comes off as lame and unprofessional. For example, they get community members to voice the characters, so as long as you can audition in your bathroom you might be able to get a role in this. The upcoming Sea of Thieves game is going to absolutely wipe this game off the map, and the developers know it.

They're at the edges of their seat trying to push out patches, it's admirable but when the game plays like a 2 man modding team, in the end it's a waste. Not worth the buy, and I wouldn't be surprised if I got banned for my honest assessment, they wouldn't want the truth when they're already under a lot of stress.

Your spooky ghost tales don't scare any of us mate.

1. It's buggy which is hence why it's labled as EARLY ACCESS. Bugs will get weened out by release.

2. Actually we paid voice actors so you're just telling fibs now. I think you may be lacking in a sense of humor since it was inspired by Chivalry and Monty Python. The game isn't meant to be serious.

3. Considering it's our first game and that we had a very small budget to work with, I think we've done pretty damn good. Sure it's rough around the edges, but compared to a lot of early access indie bloat out there on Steam for similar pricing Blackwake's sitting at 90% positive with 6k reviews.

4. Why would we feel threatened by Sea of Thieves? We've made our money and now we can keep working on the game and finish it without the stress of income. So that's the polar opposite.
I'm sure a lot of people will like SoT but considering it's Windows 10 only and not coming to Steam (going to microsoft store) that is a bit annoying for some people who want ship battles.

Also the game is in a completely different genre. Just because it's pirates doesn't make it the "blackwake killer". That's like saying the Division would kill Battlefield, shooting guns and people in a city but now you collect loot. SoT You're limited to 5 people per crew and it's a sandbox multiplayer game of up to 30ish people. Blackwake is a round based game focused on Naval battles with up to 54 players with 7 and 13man crews.

Now I definitely will buy the game, but before that I just wait for some more content and players. Thank you all for your answers. It really helped. :)
