floors through stair cases
so... not everyone wants a modern home. In older homes, staircases are encased in walls. If you do this here, there is a floor through the stairs. I've tried raising the wall height in the staircase (impossible) hiding the ceiling on the first floor (leaves a blank in the wall where the floor would be) I could use some help, as , for the moment, I feel this program has major flaws.

ok... so. if you build 2 levels at 8'10" height per level, and allow for an 8" height floor, then attach a single level at 18'6" height, there is roughly 1/4" difference in height between the two sections, AND there is no way to adjust less than an inch.

oh and... just curious.. NO PITCHED ROOFS?
Don't think of this as a home. Think of it as a commercial building with regard to layout because the stairs you're designing are essentially going to be modern day emergency staircases. (I think you have medieval castle architecture in mind.)

1. Build the floor.
2. Add an adjacent room the enter length of one wall (where the staircase will be)
3. Place an "opening"
3. Insert a staircase on the outer most wall.
4. At the next floor, where an opening has been created, this tiny block of space can serve as a "landing" which is convenient since people will be able to exit to an actual floor.
5. Repeat the Staircase structure opposite the end of the previous floor.

(It's not necessarily ideal but it's a workaround I've found.)

Customization Recommendations/Other Considerations:
- Use the staircase that features a built-in landing ( natural winding curvature)
- Do not change the height of stairs, only width.
- The adjacent room/space should be be twice the width of the stairs (room for the stairs and for people to enter/exit the space
- Where possible, use windows along the staircase to give it that Tower/Castle feel or artwork and wall decor to give it a modern architecture feel.

Other tips:
- Turn off the magnet
- Build a wall to create the illusion of a boundary on the stairs (since you can't add a railing). Should be done after you're fine with the final appearance of the stairs.

New roof options should be available with the next (major) update.

Thanks for the help, but I'm already confused and will have to delve further into this later. Build a floor? Do you mean Land? Room? I am now having real problems as well building a 2 level height room next to 2 single level stacked rooms (a LOFT). A wall always appears where a railing would be placed, and I see no way to raise the height of individual walls. I have not tried deleting the wall and building a new one yet though. Essentially I want to build a main room with a loft and an enclosed staircase leading to the loft from an entryway placed next to the stacked rooms. Hmm.. a large living room, 2 story windows on one end, a loft on the other end, so you can look outside from 2 levels of living space. Ah.... a freakin' townhouse.

oh... BTW, I do have the full package, all DLC.

This program SO needs WORKSHOP support. Would be awesome.

Found the floor opening tool. A bit clunky as a workaround but adds some interesting options. It is not possible to build a window that spans two levels of walls though. GREAT to hear about those roof options!
