Ganbare Super Strikers takes a simple, traditional, and old school approach to turn-based tactics in the flourishing new world of turn-based soccer sports games. All movements are completed through a very approachable point, click, confirm style where positioning, tackles, and shots can be done as easy as clicking on a desired square on the grid-like playing field.


The main mode here in Ganbare Super Strikers is its Story Mode campaign. Complete with fully customizable players from their appearance to their stat-effecting equipment and abilities, players will compose their perfect team and utilize a careful balance of traits and skills to overcome a series of matches.

These matches will progressively become more challenging as your opponents become more intelligent, so you'll need to continuously acquire and equip new equipment for crazy Final Fantasy Tactics styled elemental skills like Ice Shots or Sleep status effects. Every match along the story path has its own distinct challenges, three to be exact, and the more challenges that are completed the more equipment you earn so be sure to play your hardest!

Of course Ganbare Super Strikers also feature a full-fledged Arcade mode to create your own selection of matches, tournaments, and even local multiplayer face-offs. This is perfect for when you want to forego all of the progression and story and just hop into quick, fast matches of soccer tactics with a CPU or a friend.


The clean simplicity and visual accessibility in the menus and in its presentation combined with the spunky late 90's anime styling gave me a certain GBA nostalgia. Ganbare Super Strikers is a perfect little bite-sized piece of retro gaming that feels like it would have fit perfectly on the iconic handheld console.

The music, following in that retro nostalgia-fest fashion, has a very upbeat techno sound to it that feels very Neo-Geo. From the old days of the iconic Super Sidekicks, that same heavy yet blippy 16-bit style is here for the old school soccer game and arcade geeks.


If you're looking for another fix of turn-based sports goodness in this highly addictive yet hard to satisfy genre of tactical team-based action, Ganbare Super Strikers is as solid as it is stylish and comes recommended for old console sportsgame fans. The progression of newly acquired equipment expanding on fancy and explosive skills is simple yet addictive, and the main focus here is on bite-sized five minute matches of soccer tactics.

Simple yet quite fun to play. However, there's a an annoying bug, which freezes the game whenever you apply multiple debuffs to your opponent. Only get this game when it is on sales.

Ganbare! Super Strikers is turn-based tactical football/soccer game.

The game has a very good interactive tutorial.

The game has two modes: story mode and arcade mode.

In story mode you can select a team, name it and choose the colors for your team. After you have done that you can set the equipment for your team as well as the players and their formation for the next match. Winning matches win you more equipment for future matches. Choosing players is important because you want to balance your main players and the reserves (so the latter can also gain levels and help you in the future.) For each match there are 3 goals (in the form of stars) you have to try to reach, this way you can get more new equipment. The better equipment you get, the more abilities you will unlock.

In arcade mode you choose from quick match, tournament and league play. A lot of different options are available here. you can even do a 11 - 11 match and play with another local player.

When it is your turn you have the following options for each member of your team:

Move a player
*Pass the ball to another player
*Shoot the ball at the goal
*Tackle an opponent
*Dribble the ball past an opponent
Special abilities (these will be unlocked while playing)
*The success rate of these skills will be displayed.

Each player can perform 2 actions each turn.

The game can be fully played with a mouse or with a controller.

The graphics are very bright and with an anime like style. I like it.
The music is appropriate for the game, but I prefer to play with the sounds off.

If you like tactical turnbased battles and like football, I can recommend this game. The game is easy to learn. And it has enough content to keep you busy for a while.

I would give it a 7.5/10.

My son completed the game in two days.(through family library so don't look at my hours played)
With that said, he had loads of fun. controlls and concepts were easy enough for him to understand and use without any help.

I'd say the only real con was that after you complete the nationals and go to world cup, you are forced to play as Japan national team which is filled with players that were not part of the team you created. So fun of team logo, kits etc that he himself created, went away for him.

100% worth the price.

Ganbare! Super Strikers is a fun little game that focuses on the strategic layers of football, rather than fast action and quick decisions. It features XCOM-like turnbased gameplay, where you have a limited amount of actions per character, that you can use to move, tackle, pass, shoot and do other things that are common in football.

Clearly inspired by the old Captain Tsubasa nintendo games and sports animes/mangas, you have individual characters and teams with certain signature moves and/or behaviors/themes, that the player has to overcome. Those themes are mostly based around certain status effects like freeze, sleep, poison or simply increased stats and therefore higher chances for shooting, dribbling and so on.

Each character can also equip a few items between matches, giving them better stats, some special quirks or allowing them to learn certain skills. And if you like, you can even customize your team and name/design them after friends or other people you know.


Firstly I wanna give some props to rese the solo developer working on this game. His response time to bugs and problems is admirable. If you post bugs to the forum he will most likely put out a patch fixing them in one or two days. You can clearly see that he is passionate about his project and that deserves some respect.

~ the status effects are not versatile enough (frozen, asleep, stunned are basically the same thing just with different visuals)
~ the discrepancy between main character and other characters is way to big -> I understand the disposition to have a very powerful main character, much like in popular sport animes/mangas, but having a maxed out main at lvl 50 while the rest of the team struggles around lvl 10-20 and barely gets any xp does not feel right - this has changed with the recent patch
~ the story is neglectable


- the a.i. is very one sided -> from the players perspective it always looks like every team has the same strategy and the same workflow -> if you have a winning strategy it works pretty much on every opposing team, which makes replaying the game repetitive and unrewarding

All in all it's fun little game that could use a few improvements here and there, but also offers a solid package of entertainment and polish for its price.

TLDR:
Overall, the core gameplay is pretty fun and it has a lot of potential but keep in mind that content-wise it is a small game. If you get a nice discount, it's totally worth it, otherwise I think it could be a little bit cheaper.

I was hyped by the World Cup 2022 and RPG tactics is one of my favourite genres so I might be biased to say this game was exactly what I needed. It has interesting characters designs and very cool gameplay mixing football and tactics.

However, I feel like the game is not complete. I know that the developer is solo so it's not fair to request that much, but I missed a lot of things to make it even more fun, like:

• More challenging AI. I didn't feel challenged at all. it's still satisfying to score a goal and win a match though;
• More customisation. We can customise our own team name/shield and the generic characters but thats it. I wanted for example to create a whole team from scratch, maybe after finishing the main storyline.
• Explanation of things. The game has a few status effects and skills that I had no idea what they do and there is no way to know other than experimenting it yourself.
• Better UI/UX. It was not so smooth to make basic actions and choose abilities, but what was really not good was the menu, the way you customize your characters and navigate through it in general was a pain.
• Network Multiplayer. I know, it's a massive amount of work, but I feel like this game would be a perfect fit for it, so yeah, would be very cool, maybe in a sequel.

And some possible bugs that I notice:
• Chance percentage to accomplish something. It's there, but I feel like it was wrong most of the time, specially with passes.
• Offside for the AI. I was constantly creating an offside line on my defence but the AI doesn't seem to be affected by this rule.
• The game totally stuck one time and I think it's related to using dribbling skills inside the barrier created by the German guy.

Ganbare!'s mix of tactical rpg with soccer games really takes me back to the good ol' times of FF Tactics and Captain Tsubasa.
I've been following the development of this game since its early stages of development, and it really has changed a lot! I'm pleased to see it finally published in Steam. I'm really looking forward to see what Rese has in mind for his next project.

A soccer RPG that actually plays like soccer! Very minor kinks with the camera but overall super solid and nice to play. I can't get over how the rules recreate the game of soccer with pretty life-like accuracy: i think in some ways even better than games like FIFA.

I liked this game but once you figure the game out you will win most of your matches. At the beginning you are under powered and that part of the game is where I had most fun, that would be first 6 or 7 hrs of the game. You are playing on a small pitch and the action is non stop. After that you play World Cup matches and the game becomes boring and you can win every match without major problems. As you can see the game has old school look and it is a turn based football game.
I had fun but I wouldn't buy it at full price because of little content and the mechanics are bare bone.

Turn based strategy/soccer game with the ability to replay levels and gain experience and items, the latter of which allow you to develop special skills. Reminds me a little bit of Mega Man soccer from back in the day. I enjoy it.
