Can you just read the book and just flip through the pages?

After I finished the original hardcopy book, I enjoyed myself just reading random entries. Can you do that here because my original book is a wreck...

Not really. You can use free read mode which lets you turn back a page but you can still be dead via fear eventually if you make the wrong choices.
