Anyone else getting slowdown/frame rate drops?
Running an i7 3930k@4.2GHz, GTX 980. Starting at around wave 10 or 11 when a lot of enemies appear at the same time there is a very noticeable dip in frame rate. Is it just me or does this game still need a bit of optimization?

Hi there, that's weird. We are testing on a GTX970 with a lower spec CPU (5y/o)...
Is your GPU overcloaked? Try sizing down the display area of the preview window. And maybe try turning off reprojection. (SteamVR -> Settings -> Performance -> turn off "Allow Reprojection")
Do you think a GPU OC could have been a cause? Before I was running a small OC (+130MHz core). I just tried it again with default clocks and didn't notice any slow down this time at all.

Yeah, it seems that OC CPU's and VR do weird things. (Could be steamvr-based or Unity, we don't know yet)... But I'm glad it works!
Hey QuarkCannon, I get really bad frame drops. Especially when I look at the ship (http://puu.sh/oedpM/c392f0897e.jpg). I have a gtx 970 and an i5 4690k. It doesn't matter whether or not I overclock I still framedrops. Happens mainly when I look at the ship or there are quite a few enemies on the screen.

Edit: But this game is amazing! Thank you so much! :D

OK, thanks for the comment

Reloaded Worm: Have you tried unchecking "Allow Reprojection"?

We will be adding more graphical settings in the next version. Remember, you can always use shift+click on the application to bring up the graphical details settings. There is a "low" setting with lower Anti-aliasing, less real-time lights and lower res textures.
I have removed Allow Reprojection. I did not know that you could change the graphics settings though. Thanks for the advice I will definitely try that tomorrow. Thanks for the quick reply! :steamhappy:
I played this game a handful of times with no issues but now whenever I start it up my computer immediately starts dropping frames and the game is unplayable. All my other games still work fine. I've triend unchecking allow reprojection and that doesn't help. I'm running windows 10 with an i7 6700k and a EVGA GTX 970ssc which I've tried overclocking, underclocking to the stock 970 speeds, as well as running at the out of box specs for the 970ssc and still drops frames like crazy.

That's strange...
We haven't changed anything since the 5th and we've seen smooth framerates on lower spec machines. These problems are possibly related. If it ran smooth before the 5th, it's probably a driver or OS issue.

Any changes in drivers? Does making the preview window smaller do any difference? (Also, you are sure you're not running any capture software in the background etc.?)

In SteamVR->Settings>Performance->Display Frame Timing you can see any problems that could arise. Any spikes there when playing? CPU or GPU?

Also, if other people have this problem, please send a screenshot of the Frame Timing (normal + detailed) + System report (SteamVR->Settings>General>Create system report>Save to file) to support@i-illusions.com.

We'll have a look...
Wow thanks for the quick reply! After reading your response and trying to figure out if I've made any changes since it started running poorly I realized I chaged my vive output from HDMI to DisplayPort after doing the switch back to HDMI it's running smooth again. Very odd on my end and it only seemed to affect this game. Thanks for your time :)

ps if anyone is on the fence about this game pick it up!

Sorry QuarkCannon, how do I shift + click on the application. I'm not sure where to actually shift + click on. Cheers.

Edit: Never mind I figured it out. I set the graphics to low and it made all the difference. No frame skip whatsoever when I look at the ship now. To be honest, I can't even tell a difference in the graphics quality. The only thing I can notice is the lower Anti-aliasing and it's not even that much. Thanks so much for the advice. Looking forward to playing tonight!

Could you tell me? I can't find where to click.

/edit: Nevermind found it myself. For all others who don't know how to activate it:
Open Normal Steam, hold Shift and click on the Play in VR button. Then a window with graphic options should launch instead of the mirrored gameplay.

@QuarkCannon
I also drop frames, even on low when I look at the ship. My Specs are:

i7-2600K @ 4.2 GHz
GTX 970 standard clock
16 GB Ram

I did a very quick and dirty recording of Low settings.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5uw9dgjqQU

It shows that when I turn to the ship, the weapon select dial lags behind significally more. It kinda dissapears when I disable reprojection, but then the gameplay itself feels worse.

Sorry for the very unscientific approach but that's all I can manage right now.

I will try to send a detailed report later today. Game is awesome nonetheless.

How big is your preview window? It also makes a big difference in some cases. Also, you can go full-screen and choose a low resolution for the preview window.

I'll put up a post later this week with all the tips & tricks I've collected in the past days.
I tried with a fullscreen 640x480 and a poststamp sized window. Unfortunately didn't make a difference.

Hi Vennox, the UI problem (weapon select) is a issue in Unity, our engine.
That should be improved/gone when we are migrating to 5.4, which is not officially out yet.
Hi Quark, awesome game by the way the one that convinced me I'd made the right choice preordering.

It looks like I'm having frame issues though, i5 6500 and 980ti, and I'm not sure if it's SPT, the Vive or both. With SteamVR open my CPU0 chills at 98% (with SteamVR beta) but everything (Hover Junkers, Brookhaven, theBlu, AudioShield, Tiltbrush etc) runs fine.
SPT looks like it pushes it over 100% and start dropping frames after the 3rd wave or so and gets steadily worse until I feel like I'm a pirate on a choppy sea.
Weird thing is once it's in this state I need to restart SteamVR to get it to play anything else...

Happens on both graphics settings, anything I'm missing? Cheers.
