Weapons Tier List
Just got my Vive Friday, and I have to say that SPT is a contender for favorite VR game. I was wondering what rankings other players would place all of the weapons at.

My Tier List:

1. Rail Gun
2. Semi-Auto Pistol
3. Burst Fire Laser
4. Beam
5. Auto Laser

The rail gun just has got to be at the top, considering the high scores that all use it. However, last night I decimated my rail gun high score with dual semi-auto pistols, which allowed me to accurately spray down enemies using the laser sights. The laser sights REALLY help dual wield, even while dodging and shooting at weird angles. Also, an advantage over the rail gun is that you can hit a lot of bots very quickly, both keeping up your combo and stunning them so that they can't shoot at you.

The other weapons, on the other hand, seem like they could be tweaked. Beam only seems viable when dual wielding (otherwise its damage is just awful). Burst fire laser surpised me, being better than the auto laser, since you can rapidly fire it and throw out a lot more beams than the auto can (which I always found myself trying to burst-fire anyway). Both the burst fire and auto lasers seem like they could straight up deal more damage and have more batteries, since they have such a strong weakness against moving targets. Even if you DO hit drones with perfect accuracy, it feels as though the damage isn't quite high enough to be worth it.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, that would be my list as well.
Beam and Auto Laser are used a lot by new players, since they are the easiest to use.

I suppose that's actually a very important point. Having easy to use weapons that aren't too powerful is probably a good thing when it comes to introducing new players to the game. In fact, I think that the auto laser is the weapon that I picked up at first, thinking that it was amazing, haha.

What is the highest score that you've seen with a non-railgun-using run, and what weapon(s) was being used? I would seriously love to see a 200K+ run done with dual semi-autos, as it's just such a fun playstyle.

In fact, have you considered an alternate gamemode for each weapon where you can only use THAT weapon? People could shoot for high scores using their favorite weapon, without being at a disadvantage because they aren't using "the best" weapon.

We will be creating different modes and challenges, yes ;-)

Is there a post with more information about this anywhere? I know it's an often asked question by many. Thanks for your time!

We'll be giving updates about the beta soon (here and on twitter: @QuarkCannon). All of our gameplay-ideas have to be tested and implemented first, since even the coolest ideas sometimes don't work very well in VR.

I would love it if the guns transformed in your hands when you switched between modes. I think that would be a really impressive feeling watching your pistol transform into an auto-pistol, railgun, etc. Maybe slow down time to allow for a quick sci-fi style animation? Great game though. I've had a lot of fun so far and plan to put a lot more time in.

@Monsterman: the front part of the gun will transform into the different types. We've got most of the models ready... They'll make an entrance in the beta.

I've exclusively been playing with the auto laser, the railgun seems to be the way to go in order to get high scores, but it's super hard to to aim with. Gotta learn it I guess!

If you've been using the auto laser and like the style of it, I suggest at least making the switch to the burst laser. You can fire it without much of a delay between bursts, so it's basically automatic, and the rate of fire is SO much faster, tearing apart drones. I actually think that, if you had perfect accuracy, the burst laser might have the highest DPS in the game (assuming that you don't fire the semi-auto impossibly fast).

If you want to make the jump to the railgun, I suggest starting by always having your sights lined up (and using the 3-dot sights, not the default one). Just hold your arm straight out, line up your sights, and keep your arm straight as you move around. If your hand is steady enough, you can just put the dot on a drone and blast him instantly. Your arm might get a bit tired, but it makes shooting drones on the move with a railgun fairly easy.

Yeah, been trying a bit today. I did make the switch to the burst shots weapon, and got to about 7k points without using the shield (!), and just 2 burst weapons.

I later tried to to get better at aiming with the railgun and it's been going pretty well. I also noticed that the sight turns green when it's on an enemy, and knowing that helps a lot. Been getting some lucky shots sometimes. Trying to get better at it. Thanks for the tips!

Yeah, no problem! I've actually been throwing all of the little tricks and tips I've found into a guide (I figured that there should be at least ONE guide for the game). It's not much, but give it a read if you're interested! It's literally the only guide for SPT on Steam, so it's easy to find, haha.

Hm, random offtopic question, (not sure if your guide explains it, but I've seen it mentioned without much extra details), is there any actual difference between the white and black drones? Do they have more/less health or so?

Oh, yes, I forgot to put that in my guide! Black drones have considerably more health and have different firing patterns. While white drones usually fire ~3-5 lasers at a time, black drones fire those huge lines of lasers.

I should test to see how much more health they have. I suspect that it is double, since they really soak up semi-auto rounds and give you double points when you kill them.

Ah good, it'll be nice to know prioritizing those (and being more careful of those) is a smart move.
