Can't get past basement.
I keep reading online the molded always take 3 shots to the head but for me it's really inconsistent. Sometimes they do but often they don't. I'm sure I'm hitting the head because I see goo spray off of it. Is the weak spot not their entire head but only part of it? I can't tell.

I've died at this part where I have to kill 5 molded to get to the dissection room like 20 times now.

I also tried just knifing like a madman but it's not much better. I aim for the head but still always end up taking too much damage, even if I block every attack.

Edit: Going back for the shotgun made it a breeze. Almost to the point it feels like the devs WANTED you to fail until you go back for the shotgun. Which is fine I guess 😅

I don't know where you read about 3 headshots but it's false. It can take 3, can take 2, can take 6.

If you're playing on Normal you should have enough ammo to deal with every molded in the game and then some.

That said if you truly are successfully blocking and headshotting you shouldn't have the trouble you say you're having. Try making some distance between you and the molded. Kite them a bit. And sometimes just go past them, it's an option too.

Don't know which specific encounter you are talking about but I avoided most of the molded in this game. They despawn after you reach some doors.

At the end I was drowning in ammo and healing items though.

I also really struggled with this part, in the end I got through it with a lot of luck, and a using the knife whenever I faced one on their own to conserve ammo. But like others said you can just avoid them. Also there's a key you get around there (I think it's crow?) not sure if you found it already or if you are about to.. but if you have it, you can backtrack to get the shotgun, and they won't be so tough any more.

I had a miserable time in there as well. I ran out of ammo 3 times so I reloaded until i got my mouse and aim sensitivity adjusted to land more shots.
It s really only this part where ammo can be tight and Ethans pathetic movement speed cant even outrun the basement cockroaches.

Hang in there fam, it will get much better from there, a tip i can give is, if there is a HUGE fight coming up in the basement, dont bother using guns, there is something the game throws at you to help you fight without firing a single shot.

I pretty much fought every enemy i encountered because lol movement speed and I still had plenty ammo from mid game on.

If you want to have a last resort. I m sure some loot is random so when you get a checkpoint before some crates, save and reload until you get the ammo drops you need.
Never had to this but probably would have done if I knew about the basement.

In my experience I found it to be pretty consistent with 3 (on average) well placed headshots with the pistol. I struggled here as well until I realized that. I think what constitutes a "proper" headshot may vary though and account for the mixed results. But yes, when in doubt use the shotgun.

Make sure you have the shotgun. I died there as well in the beginning, because I was still using the pistol.
