the DLCs were shorter and had decent variety
It was developer's decision, and we'd like to play the game as the developers intended it to be played. And we'll accept this game for what it is, with all of its flaws.
Besides isn't it the beauty of mods that nobody forces you to use them so you can play the game as released?
Mods are user-created content. And we aren't interested in what USERS do. We play games made by the DEVELOPERS.
