RE7 Seven Years Later... it's not that good
i played this when it first came out and enjoyed it but wasnt blown away with it. didn't enjoy it enough to go for a 2nd playthrough. recently did a 2nd run in VR and... a lot of flaws are a lot more obvious the 2nd time around. Honestly my two biggest gripes are how awful movement feels; so many bosses have attacks that are just unavoidable due to how slow and clunky you are. Jack in the boathouse is a particular offender regarding that. Also the entire plot with eveline and the ship is completely garbage, this would've been much better fully focused on the baker family.

Overall, this honestly might be my least favorite modern mainline entry besides re6 and re3 remake, but man am i glad that this game saved resident evil

7 is the best resident evil for me. 8 was oke.
First person. Good story. Nice mansion/house.

You understand the two are connected right? And one part of the story wouldn't make sense without the other? This is probably just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bait meh
My fave RE for sure. Replayed it a few times of PS4. I still forget to block though all the time. It doesn't seem instinctive to put bare hands up to block. Yes I know hes infected amped up, but I have still not got used to blocking not even as a reflex mode

if you've played all the re games since 4 you'd know this is far from bait, eveline is the most cliche part of the entire game and all the parts with her are snoozefests and uninteresting. RE games have never been good at story, world building? yes. themes? yes. but not story. RE village is pretty mediocre in the 2nd half as well but still better than re7's last third on the ship

How do you play it in vr on pc?
Green Skeleton May 9, 2024 @ 7:54pm
I just played it for the first time, and I chose Zoe. Why did they even bother offering a choice when Zoe still completely disappears from the plot? It's completely embarrassing in design and I'd like to see a fan of 7 defend this.

How dare a game have a choice that is ambiguous as to which one is canon that is then later explained.

THE HORROR

Re7 has the strongest first half of any RE game ever tbh, unfortunately it starts dipping halfway and massively falls off by the end, with the last boss being a joke in difficulty and gameplay quality. I think the dlc's are fantastic and do a really good job of redeeming the overall experience of the game. Definitely one of my favourites in the series, tho I do prefer 4r and 2r.

this isnt exclusive to re7 but it's more noticeable in re7 and 8 than say 4 and 2. I dont think there's a single RE game where the 2nd half is better. i would agree the first half is like a 9.5/10, it's so intense and intriguing then the ship kills all momentum and the second half is like a 6/10. RE8's castle is arguably the best section in any RE game but it's so short. heisenberg i think is actually relatively enjoyable but moreau is so mediocre

I have no idea why ppl talk about the ship section and salt mines as "half of the game", they literally take less than an hour to finish even on a first playthrough, it's more like a quarter or a fifth of the game

I'm referring to the second half as being after marguerite, testing area isn't as good as the first 2 areas, then ship onwards (the last quarter) is where the game falls off completely.

Up until Lucas Arc this is by far the greatest RE, it falls off hard after that imo
Stevoid May 17, 2024 @ 3:58pm
bland short game, lacks decent puzzles, rather play a different RE game.

It's the other way around for me. I returned to it years later to replay the game on Madhouse and had a blast. DLCs make it even better

The movement is deliberately slow yes, you don't outrun many attacks. But you can and should block. People either underestimate or ignore blocking in RE7 and have a completely different experience
