Ray tracing is good in this actually
Been hearing about how horrible RT is in this game but now that I'm playing it I disagree. There is some funky water reflections here and there outside, wish they left those out, but otherwise it's a huge improvement.

The main reason is, like RE2 and RE3 remakes, how AWFUL the SSR is. Just a random hallway like the one outside the first main house save point looks atrocious with lots of grain, poor placement, warped reflections and awful occlusion when moving your hand around. The RT looks a million, billion times better.

Second to that the bounce lighting really enhances the brown and dirty feel of many areas, and the much better shadowing under things like desks looks great. Maybe a small area here and there looks wonky but you can say that way more about super bright areas that shouldn't be bright in the DX11 version.

All in all it's not perfect but it looks clearly better overall IMO. Kinda worried about the Zoe DLC though with all its water.

Those puddles outside at the star look bad because the entire daytime outdoor scene looks bad regardless.

The reflections look fine elsewhere.

Yeah I'm in the old house and haven't seen anything that bad since. However still not a fan of the water reflections that only show the tree stalks. They look way too bright as a result.

It's a side effect of the RT being intentionally limited in scope for consoles.

Though to be fair, even with the full path tracing mod someone did, those outdoor scenes during the day still look godawful.

Indoor and any dark scenes look amazing other than needing ray reconstruction or similar tech though.

I actually don't mind "weaker' RT. I'm a big fan of high framerate so I usually turn RT off. It's cool the RE games offer RT that runs so well. I just think if the water reflections look that bad compared to everything else developers should probably just not use them. But oh well.

Couldn't agree more. In the main house's living room, the difference between RT on and off is huge. Lights and shadow are so much more accurate with Ray Tracing. I can't understand people booing RT in RE7, they either probably do not own a great HDR capable OLED panel, or inappropriately calibrated it, but in the end RT in RE7 is a game changer, for lights, shadows and reflections, it adds a big layer of technical complexity and of depth to the game. I really love it.
