Unusual Cutscenes
Hey,

When there’s a cutscene playing in the game, theres no actual cutscene showing. Instead of the actual cutscene playing I’m greeted by, you know, those old classic tv colour screens (if confused, just search “old classic tv colour png”. you’ll know what i’m talking about) anyways, they just pop up and replace the actual cutscenes. Does anyone know any fixes? Btw, not sure if this is important, but I’m playing on a steam deck.

Did you just put a vhs tape in to watch it?

Nope aha, I have never seen this problem before. This happens on every cutscene. For example, at the start of the game - the videotape of Mia, where she explains she can’t wait to see Ethan again - she doesn’t even show. Its just that damn tv screen appearing. I’ve tried to validate the files but with no luck.

Use diferent Video Drivers (older), to see if fix the problem.

That scene is a pre recorded video rather than realtime, so you may just be missing a codec. Used to crash the game if you didn't have them, maybe the newer version just doesn't play the videos instead.
Since you are on Steam Deck then this game is running through Proton. Look up how to install wmp11 on Steam Deck and that might help you fix your issue. I have the same thing on my PC but haven't found a proper fix for it yet. What is happening is that Proton is using a stock video when wmv plays, and their stock video is imitating one of those old screeens.

I have the same problem in March 20024 :(
The problem also exists in RE8 Village.
I would expect the game to work properly since it is marked as 'Deck Verified'.

It an easy fix. You need to use the custom GEproton from github.

https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/wiki

Read the wiki I linked, you just need to create a folder and extract the tar.gz file into that folder, then select that version of proton in the Steam client.
After doing this the cut scenes will play perfectly, and lots of other games will start working.

Check protondb.com when you have issues running games on your Steamdeck, most fixes are documented there.

If you also have the issue of no sound from directly behind you, turn off 3d Sound, select TV or headphones AND delete the MSSpatial.dll (browse local files)
