Before the update there were mods or you could also hex edit the .exe for playing this game in 21:9 / 32:9. Now after the update it's all dead. Thanks Capcom for not even trying to add native ultrawide support on the so-called "next gen update".

Edit: Solution found by a guy named Eric

"There's a very good mod called REFramework that just recently added ultrawide support (I think? I don't have ultrawide). I installed the latest version for other purposes but saw an option labelled "ultrawide fix" which seems to add support for it. https://github.com/praydog/REFramework-nightly/releases/tag/latest

Move everything into your root folder for RE7 except for the openvr and openxr files - only use those when you want to play in VR. Then open the game and hit the insert key to toggle the REFramework menu, and the option for ultrawide will be in there.

An annoying thing about REFramework is that by default it disables anti aliasing, you can fix this by going into the reframework folder in your RE7 root folder > autorun > and then delete re2_sharpness_removal.lua."

It looks like the mod does not save your settings, so you have to set it again every time you start up the game. I like to set my fov modifier to 650, which seems fitting for the compensated ultrawide aspect.

So... you do realize that those mods can be updated for the new version, right?

That's how modding works.

Judging by the RE Steam forums the past day there are lots of users that didn't know updates break mods and have taken to complaining rather than waiting a few day for the mods creators to update their work.

breaking resolution fixes? they shouldn't. the devs themselves should fix it actually.

It's not the devs job to fix third party mods.

The game not supporting a resolution the devs didn't intend support for isn't something broken.

It's just something they didn't do.

I'm not gonna bother continuing my playthrough until mods are updated for it, the game is great in ultrawide, and so is Village, but while the remakes of RE 2 and 3 support 21:9 just fine, these two just have issues for no good reason. It's pretty frustrating but we just have to wait.

Capcom logic at it's finest

Horror games are way spookier in ultrawide aspects, I love it.

Ultrawide is definitely a more immersive experience. Once you get it, you don't want to go back to a lower / limited field of view, like 16/9. But if you still are at 16/9 well... you'll survive, no doubt about it. :lunar2019grinningpig:

This update, all and all, seems more like a downgrade than upgrade.

Makes sense, don't you think? It's a LARGER display area.

Now, imagine having even more space sideways on that LGblabla... of yours, to fit a 21:9 format.

Man I was really hoping the new update would support ultra wide. Although, the game seems much more optimized and plays smoother than before. Would have been awesome to revisit this gem in ultra wide, what a shame.

Oh well. Uninstall, for now.

Who let console plebs into this discussion? Capcom, show you can keep up with respectable modern studios or even hobbyist developers and release ultrawide support. This is lazy work to put rouge lipstick on this pig and call it a next gen update. SMH.

You can roll back to the DX11 update where it works

Im in the same boat with you, but with triples.

It'll be worth the wait.
