Anyone else getting weird ray tracing artifacts?
I just uploaded this video (it's only 35 seconds) so it might still be in 360p or something.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trSUD3LWh7Q

As you can see, I'm getting weird dithering on all shadows (and, hey, guess what, game has a LOT of shadows) which of course makes it look like they're made of dots, something I haven't seen since I played games on the PSP.

Beyond that, the ray traced reflections leave huge ghost trails that just look stupid.

I do not have TAA or FidelityFX enabled, RT is set to high, and my frame rate is way way above 60 at 4k.

If I open up Resident Evil 2 Remake, the shadows and RT there look fine. When looking at the Digital Foundry video for this game, the console versions didn't seem to exhibit this behavior (as far as I can tell with Youtube's bit rate), and based on the forums, it doesn't look like other people here are getting it either. So I'm assuming it's something on my end.

Anyone know how I might resolve this?

That's caused by low ray cast count and low cast rate.

Just a side effect of the comparatively really light ray tracing they did.

Why am I seeing no one complain about it though? Although now that I think back to the DF video they moved the camera really slowly the entire time...

It looks worse than no RT at all. It looked just fine in RE2R.
It's mostly just an issue in that outdoor area. I don't recall any real problems like that once I got indoors.
Yep, I'm seeing the same thing. It looks awful, not gonna lie. RE8, RE2 remake and etc definitely look better than this. I'm getting 140 fps outside with FSR turned off and the ray tracing settings set to high, so they should definitely increase the casting for the PC version.
The RE games have very watered down ray tracing. Because they needed it to work with AMD GPU's for the consoles, which are nowhere close to as capable.

It's because they broke the TAA in the update, it hardly works now and is supposed to resolve artifacts like that (which it used to before the update). I've been trying to tell people but no one seems to care even though it looks hideous and leaves aliasing everywhere. They also broke the resolution scale as well. Also this is a problem across all the games not just re7. The more people that talk about it the more likely capcom are to fix it.

I also just realized you're not using TAA which would probably help but it's still not as effective as it was prior to this update.

1: That's not what TAA is designed to resolve.
2: TAA isn't what will help this issue.
3: It did not "used to before the update." as before the update there was no ray tracing in the equation.

Yes, TAA is broken in the current patch, but, you're wrong about the rest of it.

Yep, definitely not TAA because it happens with SMAA or no AA as well.

TAA actually is used as a noise filter in many games, it's used as a blanket solution by many devs because they're too lazy to implement proper ways to resolve artifacts caused by modern rendering techniques. It's easier for them to just slap TAA on as a band aid solution and call it a day. I'm not talking about the ghosting artifacts but rather the shadow dithering which was in fact alleviated by TAA and pretty much is in any game that has soft shadows similar to this game.

This thread isn't about shadow dithering.

It's about the ray tracing ghosting. Which TAA would do literally nothing to help.

Thus your statement of "it's because they broke the TAA" and everything that followed it is both incorrect and completely off topic.

You're still making blanket statements about TAA.

Right of course I am
I literally stated it wouldn't resolve the ghosting artifacts and if anything TAA would make that worse but it would help with the shadows.

You mean the part you went back and edited in?
Alright, so I guess that's just the poor RT implementation. I figure since there aren't other outdoor daylight scenes maybe that's the worst it'll look.

In that case... is there any solution for the shadow dithering? It really, REALLY bothers me.
