Game's too dark
When I look at screenshots from other people, or YouTube videos, the game looks really good. Mine looks like you're wearing sunglasses all the time. I can barely see anything that's not too close to a light source. Even at the beginning of the game where you walk in the woods during the day, the areas in the shadow look almost pitch black.

After watching a playthrough I realized I missed a LOT of details solely because of the darkness and it's really ruining the experience for me. I have tried changing the color space, cranked up the display brightness (IPS, it can be blindingly bright). The only thing that seems to do anything is the brightness slider in-game, but that's not how you'd go about fixing this, the slider must be set to a certain position where the left symbol disappears and the right one is barely visible. If I maxed it out the game looks washed out.

All inputs are welcome.

Maybe you’re off a notch or so but the game is definitely supposed to be dark. People crank the brightness up all the way so they can see better (cheating) and because it makes the game less scary. Like in Mia’s stair scene, if you set it high enough you can already see her waiting at the bottom in her ‘spider stance’ and the jump scare is kinda telegraphed.

Yeah if you watch people play it on Youtube or whatever they 90% of the time have the brightness cranked. Even without trying to cheat I think some people just prefer that look and think anything being obscured by black is "wrong." Which is weird, but hey play how you want.
Change "Ambient Occlusion" from hbao+ to anything else.

I played 2 and 3 remake with that and lots of areas were too dark, even with obvious light sources such as ceiling lights. I thought it was some kind of bug as they were Game pass for PC versions, but I recently discovered it was in fact that damn HBAO+ "Nvidia exclusive" setting, so I wonder, is that how it's supposed to look? It seems broken :/
thank you who ever posted the fix hbao+ ruined the game visuals with extreme darkness much better with it switched to something else.

Congrats, you win the retarded comment award.
For the record I haven't played the game again so I don't know if that's the actual fix but so many people are thanking that person so I just picked it as the solution.

Still here dude? :D
Btw, switching to another ambient occlusion setting does fix the issue, can't believe hbao+ wasn't fixed with an update or something smh
