Is the "5-Coin Set & Madhouse Mode Unlock" basically just a way to make the game a bit easier?

The coins help so little that it'd be better to save the inventory slots for other items

You can probably use them to make the game harder: fill up your inventory with those five coins plus the Old Coin from Beginning Hour, then try to beat the game without picking up any inventory expansions :P
