Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Thoughts on Blue Umbrella?
So, I got quite hyped when I saw the blue umbrella logo during the ending sequence of RE7. For me, Resident Evil IS Umbrella. I had a lot of hopes for this, but questions aswell. Did Umbrella revive itself, did they become the good guys? Apparently, it's just a group of PMC's now, trying to fix the ♥♥♥♥ they caused, which is still quite stupid/weird, considering that only a certain ammount of personnel were actually responsible for the outbreak. What do you guys think?

I'm sure they'll add more to all those new companies and characters in their next big RE game.

Wish you were right, but they've been literally creating one-shot evil companies/organizations with each game since RE4 and then they just didn't give a crap about them anymore. Same for all those throwaway villains.

And yeah, we also enjoy the games, but it's getting harder and harder to also enjoy the lore when it's so messed up and filled with garbage that isn't going anywhere. I'd really welcome a plot reboot at this point :)

On a side note, according to RE5 and RE Archives 2 iirc, the former "inocent" Umbrella employees that were still alive after the many outbreaks were re-assigned to work with WillPharma, the Global Pharmaceutical Consortium or the BSAA labs, while the bad ones sold their services to terrorist groups, so this Blue Umbrella thing is pretty much retcon.

Resident Evil, at this point, is the stupiddest thing. After RE4 the things went just caothic (in a storytelling view)
The concept of a company in RE universe naming itself "Blue Umbrella" is INSANE. Umbrella is responsible for MILLIONS of deaths, horrific human rights abuses with their experiments, war crimes, and worse. Who the hell would hire them? What kind of publicity would they get?

It's the equivalent of a German merenary company forming after WW2 and calling themselves... "Neo Nazis". Yes, I know we got a little one sentence explanation in the start of NaH as to why they call themselves "Blue Umbrella", but it's a stupid explanation. A smart PR firm would want to move as FAR AWAY from the previous Umbrella company as possible.

And there's no reason for anyone to trust Blue Umbrella. Yeah, most of the people who were involved in the bad stuff are dead/in prison, but the new company is using Umbrella's old infrastructure and resources; don't you think Average Joe would be incredibly suspicious of Blue Umbrella?
It's funny that this doesn't even work as a plot twist because it doesn't change the course of the series in the slightest. It's like "Wow, Umbrella revived", but they're now good guys doing the same thing the BSAA has been doing for a decade, aka: send Chris Redfield to fight bioterrorism and save the day with a bunch of nobodies that will obviously die :)

They even tell you how meaningless this blue Umbrella is by saying they exist since 2007 and we never heard of them before...

They made a hole in the water with this, killing off Umbrella entirely. Unless there's another teaser in the end of their future games with *red* Umbrella so it keeps reviving and dying.

Pointless. They could have atleast placed BSAA instead of this like you said, instead of creating all this hype about Umbrella and then going "eh they're the good guys now working to aid and support humanity, let's forget they wiped out millions".

I always thought that the "story twist" of the original Revelations was the most stupidly convoluted thing they ever came up with, but this is now easily topped by "Blue Umbrella". I really sometimes wonder what the guys responsible for story continuity are smoking.
Which story twist are you talking about?

Also, yeah. Umbrella died too early, and in the current RE Games there are either a few references or locations(Like RE:5,Facility in Africa). Instead of Umbrella, we have a bunch of silly Groups of Interest or whatever, even though they still don't have an active role, unlike Umbrella. Also, the games changed A LOT in my opinion. Now we fight weird dudes and angry old mans, and zombies/lickers were replaced with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of huge ass mutations(Btw, if I'm not wronf Umbrella has only worked on those certain mutations,is that right?)

PS: I actually really liked RE Revelations(First one)as a horror game, the atmosphere inside the ship was AMAZING.
The fact that they "killed" Umbrella after the Raccoon Incident really shows that the RE story wasn't suppossed to be that long.
I kinda like it, to be honest, unlike most posting here it seems.

Maybe not's not even the end of the line, there is more to it, etc.

But on the other hand depending on how you look at it, it might also make sense to atone. Someone gave mentioned "blue ISIS" or "blue Waffen-SS" as ridiculous examples (that made me laugh out loud by the way, good job :P) so I might as well use Germany as example.

Germans in WW2. The bad guys. Bad rep after WW2 for a while, perhaps for some, even today.

But today the good guys, who since then, tried to make up for it somehow, through atonement. They were sorry.

I consider it somewhat viable for company remnants to try to wash out the bad rep or name - we can likely assume those behind (blue) Umbrella are mostly not the people responsible for the prior messes, as those would be dead, in jail or hiding, still.

Many not thrown in jail or killed likely would've run off to other companies or "new lives", but this kind of seems commendable from an in-universe perspective.

And it's kinda "cool" to have that same name or vibe as the supposedly good guys or at least them as non-antagonistic faction unlike before.

Due to the name and brand, they also seem more interesting to me in fighting their prior creations than, say, the BSAA.
