SPOILERS - Can someone explain Lucas to me?
I've just finished the game + the not a hero DLC.

I think I understand every character and what happened to them except Lucas. Why was he a researcher at the lab? Why is the lab so close to the farm house as well? It's like from what I understand, Eveline was being transported on a tanker, she went unstable, sunk the ship and got washed up along with Mia then picked up by the Baker family, from there, as seen on the Daughters DLC, we can see how Eveline starts to affect the family, but Lucas was just like the others, normal guy, no hidden agenda or anything. So at what point does Lucas become a researcher at the lab, how does he get his own lab, becomes a high ranking researcher that has subordinates and everything?

I thought he was just as mad and influenced by Eveline as his parents, but it seems to me that he embraced his infection, loves the ability to regenerate wounds and that he is deeply involved with the research in some way, almost like he was in on it before Eveline arrived at his house? He's doing experiments on her, gathering data and selling it to the connections, then wants to take ownership of Eveline for himself and his own plans.

I understand that, but I just can't wrap my head around how he isn't like Jack or Margarite who seem mostly focused on kidnapping people for Eveline, playing house and being crazy, Lucas on the other hand seems much more clever and like he had a much bigger part in this than it's let on.

I'm having difficulty explaining what I mean exactly.

Who did the lab belong to? The Connections organised crime group? And if so, why would they hire or let Lucas join them if they know he is infected, unpredictably violent and crazy. How did he go from a normal guy living with his family at the farm house to a top researcher in some secret underground lab, being in charge of Eveline. Was he already there before the events at the start of the game or did that happen later?

If anybody is able to give me a long or short answer that can give me some understanding, I would appreciate it, thanks.

The Connections organization might be explained more in RE8. I'm thinking the organization gave some sort of suppressant drug to lucas so eveline can't fully control him. I see lucas as evil person in nature, so that's why the organization used him.
Hmm, yeah it's a bit vague I guess, either I'm missing something or it's not explained entirely, but interesting nonetheless.
Not sure if it helps explain it or not, but Lucas has all kinds of trophies in his room. Maybe he was involved with The Connections from the beginning. Like Alexia Ashford, he was pretty intelligent as a child, so that might be a reason why they'd recruit him.

I always felt like Lucas was someone immune to Eveline just like Chloe. And the organization used him because it would make sense to not send anymore scientist in to get infected, just use dumb old lucas.
