So do zombie bites infect you or....?
In the games (with the exception of Operation Raccoon City, which isn't canon) when you get bit by a zombie, you simply take damage and are not infected.

However, in the Anderson movies, you do get infected by bites, even though this is a different universe, isn't it supposed to be based off the games?

Characters in Resident Evil are never bit in cutscenes and live to tell the tale, and they are also never bit in the CGI movies.

So I don't get it, do bites infect you in the Capcom universe or not?

Bites infect you. But remember that bite during gameplay (not cutscene) it's just part of game experience. Just like ability to heals with herbs. But what happens in cutscene is actually happened. Like Nemesis infect Jill in RE3 or Birkin infect Sherry in RE2.

So, the canon way to play is to just not get bit?

In the games, the reason why you simply take damage and not get infected ( with exception of re:of1 / re:of2, your virus gauge percentage increases faster. ) is gameplay. As for other situations, the bites arent %100 guaranteed way of getting infected. The bite could have a chance to be dry. Another factor is the person who is bitten might simply be immune to the virus. According to wesker's report 2, %10 in population were simply born as immune to it and due to this, birkin created the hunter to make sure of %100 success rate.

This applies to t-virus and a-virus ( t-virus + plaga gene ) of course.

As for c-virus, zombie bites cant cause any infection at all. Only gas can.

Idk about anderson's universe, someone else might answer that question.

Outbreak and outbreak file 2.

makes sense....
some people breeze through flu season or just lightly have a cough, some feel like shooting themselves for about two weeks when they have the flu. Happens to healthy folks and slobs alike.

Main heroes like Chris, Jill, Leon etc. they all Immune for convenient. But Outbreak & Outbreak file 2 characters are just ordinary citizens. So they are not immune.

It's just gameplay. Anyone bitten by a T-Virus zombie during a story event will become a zombie (or will directly die if the body has been damaged beyond repair). Main characters aren't immune, they just are skilled and lucky enough to not get bit.

Capcom doesn't implement infection mechanics because they're lazy, or because if they do, there will be allways some idiots complaining that they don't want to have a time limit. (As if ranks and rewards in RE games weren't mostly time based anyway)

Oh really? Rebecca gets bit during a cutscene in RE0 and lives to tell the tale.

Rebecca gets bit by an Eliminator, not a zombie. Eliminators are manufacture BOWs like the Hunters or Tyrants, zombies are just regular people who got infected. There's no written rule about BOWs having the ability to infect.
