Bug: my brightness is totally busted
For some reason this game is too dark for me to actually see anything most of the time. Here's what the game looks like for me on max brightness settings going from the locked door on the first floor back to the kitchen:

Oh, and, incidentally, this only effects things in the "present day." If I watch the VHS tape, everything depicted there looks the way it should.

Also, just in case this is just a case of "you're just whining because your monitor is broken" here's another look at the game in default brightness. I think this is on the stairwell, right before I reach the area with the button to the attic.

I just spent about an hour in the game just now seeing if there was a combination of settings that would "fix" the problem and restore the correct lighting, but it doesn't matter. I've turned everything down to low, I've turned everything up to high, interlacing on, interlacing off, I've changed the color space (which just seems to make the game even darker), I've even dipped in to re7_config.ini and tried editing those settings by hand (tried setting renderer to "DirectX10" and "DirectX9" but it keeps getting forced to DirectX11)

It may also be unrelated but the demo also keeps trying to do the first time setup (checks Direct X and VC Redistributables) every single time I launch it, even though it's done the first time set up five times at this point.

I am currently in the process of uninstalling and redownloading Beginning Hour in its entirety.

Try changing the render mode (or whatever it is called) from normal to the other one.

You really think so? Here's the stairwell area in the PS4 version

Here is what that exact same room looks like for me with the brightness cranked up to max

I can't make that area any brighter or more visible than it is right there.

I have all the latest drivers for everything in my system.

This is a gpu issue. Try changing all to the lowest options and then change them.

Post a pic of your ingame options.

No offense, dude, but in Post #3 I said I've already tried turning everything down to low and then back up to the highest and there was no change in brightness. The demo is currently redownloading right now (50% done), but here's a screenshot I took last night for all the settings it defaulted to originally:

I get a pretty solid 60fps with those settings unless I enter the kitchen area, where I start getting random drops to under 30fps. Turning "Shadow Quality" down to medium or low seems to get my FPS back up again.

I understand the GPU I have is sort of old (4-ish years, maybe more) but everything else about this game plays just fine. I just can't see in most areas unless the brightness is cranked all the way up to max.

Have you checked your gpu panel settings to see if the gamma sliders arent screwd?
BlazeHedgehog Dec 20, 2016 @ 5:00pm
Checking in the AMD Control Panel, it looks like my GPU's gamma and color settings are turned off. There's a button labeled "Re-enable AMD Color Controls" that will let me adjust the gamma and such, but currently everything's disabled and at their defaults.

No other game I own is dark like RE7 is.

Anyway, I made a video to outline exactly what I'm seeing as I see it.

Yeah that's not right. I've got no idea myself what it could be. Do a clean uninstall of your drivers and do a driver sweep using DDU in safemode to get rid of any other driver settings/files.

BlazeHedgehog Dec 21, 2016 @ 10:19pm
I don't know if reinstalling my drivers is going to do anything. Literally no other game I've played before or since Beginning Hour has exhibited any problems.
