I just spent about an hour in the game just now seeing if there was a combination of settings that would "fix" the problem and restore the correct lighting, but it doesn't matter. I've turned everything down to low, I've turned everything up to high, interlacing on, interlacing off, I've changed the color space (which just seems to make the game even darker), I've even dipped in to re7_config.ini and tried editing those settings by hand (tried setting renderer to "DirectX10" and "DirectX9" but it keeps getting forced to DirectX11)
It may also be unrelated but the demo also keeps trying to do the first time setup (checks Direct X and VC Redistributables) every single time I launch it, even though it's done the first time set up five times at this point.
I am currently in the process of uninstalling and redownloading Beginning Hour in its entirety.
You really think so? Here's the stairwell area in the PS4 version

Here is what that exact same room looks like for me with the brightness cranked up to max

I can't make that area any brighter or more visible than it is right there.
I have all the latest drivers for everything in my system.

I get a pretty solid 60fps with those settings unless I enter the kitchen area, where I start getting random drops to under 30fps. Turning "Shadow Quality" down to medium or low seems to get my FPS back up again.
I understand the GPU I have is sort of old (4-ish years, maybe more) but everything else about this game plays just fine. I just can't see in most areas unless the brightness is cranked all the way up to max.
No other game I own is dark like RE7 is.
Anyway, I made a video to outline exactly what I'm seeing as I see it.
